KCC Adult Short Breaks Adult short break services offer overnight stays in the five residential services across Kent (Ashford, Canterbury, Deal, Staplehurst, & Tunbridge Wells).

We support adults with learning disability and Autism in Care Quality Commission registered homes.

Our weekly menu is all about choice, variety and trying something new! 🌱🌍
We always aim to include a vegetarian meal, and we’ve recently introduced a weekly dish from a different country, giving the people we support the opportunity to explore new flavours, cuisines and cultures.
Providing varied menus and listening to people’s preferences helps us put person-centred support into everyday practice. This links with the CQC assessment framework by promoting choice and control, wellbeing, individual preferences and positive experiences.
Who knows where our menu will take us next! 🌎🥘

⛳🌊 Crazy golf and a seaside stroll!
The people we support at Whitstable Road had a fantastic time making the most of the last of the warmer weather, enjoying a round of crazy golf followed by a lovely walk by the sea. ☀️😊
Supporting people to get out and about, enjoy activities they choose and stay connected with their local community is an important part of person-centred support.
Days like this reflect the CQC assessment framework, including supporting people’s choice and independence, wellbeing and participation in the community, while enabling them to enjoy experiences that are meaningful to them.

💙 Lovely feedback for Southfields!

Our team recently received some fantastic feedback recognising their support, knowledge and involvement in helping professionals understand a person’s needs when they were moving on from respite into residential care.

Their contribution to review meetings and ongoing support were described as invaluable.

💙🎉 B had an absolute blast in our ball pit at Meadowside!

As the ball pit's number one fan, B couldn't stop smiling as she played and had lots of fun. One of her favourite things to do is throw the balls at staff, which always leads to plenty of laughter from everyone involved! 😂🔵🟡🔴

Activities like this support wellbeing, choice, and meaningful engagement, giving people opportunities to enjoy the things they love in a way that's personal to them. This reflects CQC's person-centred values, promoting positive experiences, independence, and quality of life.

It's safe to say the ball pit remains B's favourite place to be! 😊💙

📍🔨 Getting involved and making a difference at Whitstable Road! 🔨📍

One of the people we support recently lent a helping hand with installing our new washing line at Whitstable Road. 💪😊

Taking part in everyday household tasks is a great way to build practical skills, increase confidence and promote independence. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and pride in contributing to the home and completing a meaningful DIY project.

This activity aligns with the CQC Single Assessment Framework, particularly in supporting people to develop and maintain independence, have choice and control over their daily lives, and participate in activities that are meaningful to them. Encouraging involvement in day-to-day tasks helps people gain valuable life skills, achieve positive outcomes and feel a real sense of belonging within their home environment.

A brilliant example of teamwork, independence and achievement. Well done! 👏🌟

🌟 Meet the Team – Adelle Wicks 🌟

This week, we're introducing Adelle Wicks, our Business Support Lead.

Adelle has worked for KCC for 5 years and is passionate about helping others succeed. One of her proudest achievements is completing her apprenticeship and progressing into her current leadership role. She says the apprenticeship helped her build her knowledge, skills and confidence, paving the way for the next step in her career.

Outside of work, Adelle enjoys planning trips and holidays, walking her dog, and spending quality time with her family. Her ideal weekend includes great food, fun days out, a long dog walk, and a few drinks with loved ones. 🍷🐕‍🦺

If she could be any animal for a day, she would choose a dog because they're loyal, family-focused, and excited about everything, qualities that reflect her positive outlook on life.

Professionally, Adelle is inspired by people who bring out the best in others and admires leaders who are approachable, supportive, and encourage those around them to grow.

🍫🍰 K had a great time baking a delicious chocolate cake with Nathan for everyone at Meadowside to enjoy for dessert!

From mixing the ingredients to seeing the finished cake come out of the oven, K was involved every step of the way. The cake went down a treat and was enjoyed by everyone.

Activities like this promote independence, confidence, choice, and meaningful engagement, supporting the person-centred care values at the heart of CQC standards.

When the TV stopped working for a few hours at , “M” adapted brilliantly and spent time on the laptop watching his favourite programme, Mr Tumble. 💻📺

It's important that people have access to different ways to enjoy their interests and make choices about their day. Supporting “M” to engage in activities he enjoys promotes wellbeing, independence and positive outcomes, in line with CQC's person-centred approach to care.
