🏡🔎 Did you know that archaeological discoveries at Stoneacre suggest there may have been activity on the site for over 1,000 years?

Our display case brings together finds uncovered through fieldwork and metal detecting between 2018 and 2025, revealing traces of life here from the early medieval period right through to the 20th century.

🏺 From oyster shells, animal bones and pottery fragments to a mid to late Saxon hairpin and a medieval alloy buckle, these objects help tell the story of the people who lived, worked and passed through Stoneacre over the centuries.

You can also discover Stoneacre's fascinating historic graffiti, including inscribed names, ritual protection marks and centuries-old inscriptions on the Great Hall fireplace.

We have a great new article to share with you this morning - all about archaeology at Stoneacre NT, near Maidstone in Kent. Some wonderful finds have been discovered at this site during metal detecting surveys and watching briefs, and we have recently been able to commission a graffiti survey of the building by MJC-Associates, with grateful thanks to the Kent Archaeological Society and the William and Edith Oldham Charitable Trust for funding:
