“Gurkha by heritage, Airborne by choice, victorious by determination.”

Huge congratulations to all Section Commanders and Bhaiharu on an outstanding achievement at Ex EAGLE PATROL (23 Parachute Engineer Regimental Section Competition 2026), held at Salisbury Plain Training Area from 8–11 June 2026.

Competing against 14 sections, including a team from the Netherlands, 70 Gurkha Parachute Squadron delivered exceptional results:

🥇 1st Place – Cpl Subodh Rana

🥈 2nd Place – Cpl Chet Gurung

🏅 4th Place – Cpl Bibek Nembang

Securing three of the top four positions is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the professionalism, determination, teamwork, and winning ethos demonstrated by the team. This outstanding performance reflects great credit upon the team itself, the Corps of Royal Engineers, The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers, and the wider Brigade of Gurkhas.

37 Fd Sqn extends its sincere gratitude and best wishes to Lt Col Neil Wilks RE (CO 32 Engr Regt) as he concludes his tenure in command. We thank him for his dedicated leadership, unwavering commitment, and outstanding service to the Regiment and wish him every success in his future appointments.

We are also delighted to welcome Lt Col Rich Griffiths RE as the new CO of the Regiment. We wish him every success as he assumes command and look forward to supporting his vision and leadership in the years ahead.

*CORPORAL KRISHNA RAI CUP– Intake Volleyball Competition 2026*

On 31 May 2026, 36 Engineer Regiment and the Queen Gurkha Engineers (QGE) hosted the annual Cpl Krishna Rai Intake Volleyball Competition in honour of Corporal Krishna Rai, who made the ultimate sacrifice while clearing unexploded ordinance after the Falklands Conflict.

The tournament brought together 11 intake teams and 4 QGE Ladies’ teams, showcasing outstanding teamwork, determination, sportsmanship, and skill throughout a highly competitive day of volleyball.

Congratulations to Intake 24, champions of the men’s competition, and Intake 20, winners of the ladies’ competition.

With more than 200 service personnel and family members in attendance, the event served as a fitting tribute to Cpl Krishna Rai’s enduring legacy, celebrating the camaraderie, resilience, and the Gurkha spirit that defined his service.

*EX EVEREST SAPPER 26 – THE SPRS COMPLETED THE WORLD’S HIGHEST MARATHON*

On 29 May 2026, a 14-man team from 36 Engineer Regiment and The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers, led by SSgt Bhupendra of 67 Gurkha Field Squadron, successfully completed the Everest Marathon 2026 – recognised as the world’s highest-altitude marathon.

Following months of rigorous preparation and training, the team conquered the demanding 42-kilometre course across challenging Himalayan terrain, commencing at an altitude of 5,364 metres. Their achievement demonstrated exceptional endurance, resilience, and teamwork in one of the world’s most physically demanding environments.

Special recognition goes to Spr Palpali, who recorded the fastest time within the team, completing the marathon in an impressive 5 hours, 34 minutes and 48 seconds.

Ex EVEREST SAPPER 26 embodied the very best of the Sapper spirit: courage, determination, professionalism, and the ability to overcome adversity. This outstanding achievement reflects great credit upon the team, the Corps of Royal Engineers, The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers, and the wider Brigade of Gurkhas.

* 36 Engineer Regiment & The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers Deploy Sappers to HMNB Clyde*

In March 2026, 68 Gurkha Field Squadron deployed a Deployable Engineer Workshop (DEW) to HMNB Clyde in response to a request from the Royal Navy. Led by Workshop Troop and supported logistically by Support Troop, the team rapidly established a fully operational engineering workshop capability, including Fabrication and Blacksmith bays, as well as Carpenter and Joiner facilities.

The deployed workshop has provided critical engineering support to submarine infrastructure across the Naval Base, ensuring the continued delivery of essential maintenance and construction tasks. The operation demonstrated exceptional professionalism, technical expertise, and adaptability in meeting demanding operational requirements.

This successful deployment highlights the strength of joint working between the British Army and Royal Navy, further strengthening inter-service cooperation and enhancing operational readiness in direct support of national defence.

*OC’s Annual Inter-Troop Cricket Competition 2026*

On 3rd June 2026, 67 Gurkha Field Squadron successfully conducted the OC’s Annual Inter-Troop Cricket Competition under the leadership of Sgt Degnath Pokhrel and his assistant Spr Sanam Pun.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen cohesion, teamwork, and esprit de corps across the Squadron while fostering healthy competition away from routine commitments. Throughout the competition, participants demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and teamwork, reflecting the values and professionalism of the Squadron.

Congratulations to C Troop for being crowned this year’s champions following an impressive performance throughout the tournament.

Well done to all troops who took part and contributed to the success of the event.

*EX KHUKURI MARKSMAN 2*

From 16–22 May 2026, 69 Gurkha Field Squadron sharpened its combat edge during a demanding live-firing package at Hythe Range.

Over five intensive training days, soldiers conducted Live Firing serials with the GPMG and SA80, progressively building towards the Annual Combat Marksmanship Test (ACMT). UKSB-designated personnel also undertook rigorous Close Quarter Marksmanship (CQM) live-fire training, enhancing their effectiveness in complex and dynamic operating environments.

The exercise ensured personnel at every level from Squadron to Regimental Headquarters maintained the marksmanship, confidence, and readiness required for high-readiness operations.

*Inter-Troop Football Competition 2026*

69 Gurkha Fd Sqn successfully conducted its Annual Inter-Troop Football Competition under the leadership of LCpl Yojan Rai on 29 May 2026. The event was organised to promote physical fitness, strengthen teamwork, and enhance winning spirit within the Squadron.

The competition fostered strong team cohesion and camaraderie across all troops while providing a healthy and competitive environment. Through active participation, SPs demonstrated teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, further reinforcing mutual trust and cooperation within the Squadron, while also providing an excellent opportunity for personnel to develop leadership, resilience, and collective pride through sport.
