Work is now under way at Alexandra Road in Lymington to improve access and enhance the site for everyone who uses it.

The project will create new hoggin stone paths to help stop the existing grass footpaths turning to mud, making it easier to reach the nearby SANG all year round. There will also be new planting and landscaping to help make the area more attractive and enjoyable for residents and visitors.

The land is owned by Lymington and Pennington Town Council, with the works being funded by New Forest District Council through developer contributions as part of the Green Way project.Work is now under way at Alexandra Road in Lymington to improve access and enhance the site for everyone who uses it.

Progress at Withy Woods. Our contractor is carefully removing the built up silt from the pond so we can restore its original depth and improve water quality.

Getting that depth back really matters for wildlife. A deeper pond holds more water, stays more stable through the seasons, and is less likely to shrink right back during hot, dry weather. It can also help keep the water cooler in summer and support healthier oxygen levels, which is good news for aquatic plants and the many species that rely on ponds, including insects, amphibians, birds, and fish.

Most importantly, increasing the pond’s water capacity adds resilience during drought periods, giving local wildlife a more reliable place to feed, shelter, and breed when other water sources are under pressure.

More updates soon as the restoration continues.

The new bridge at Farnleys Mead is now open. 🌿🌊

We have replaced the old, dilapidated structure with a Bison Bridge made from recycled plastic, giving waste materials a second life and helping to keep plastic out of landfill. The result is a strong, durable crossing designed for the outdoors, with minimal upkeep, and a lighter impact on the environment.

Thank you for your patience while the work was completed. The installation timeline was affected by the need to secure a Flood Risk Activity Permit, which took longer than expected.

If you are out for a walk, come and take a look, and enjoy safer access at Farnleys Mead.

⚠️ Scam Warning. Please Read and Share ⚠️

We are aware of a sophisticated scam currently circulating on Facebook and by email that falsely uses the name of the Mayor and the Council to appear legitimate.

A resident attended our offices this morning believing they were required to pay £500 to release supposed winnings and a vehicle after entering an online Facebook competition. The messages they received were fraudulent, but highly convincing.

At a high level, this scam:
• Claims that the Mayor and the Council are holding prize winnings pending payment of a handling or release fee
• Directly names Colm McCarthy as having authorised or instructed the payment
• Refers to non existent concepts such as a county cashier’s office or a mayor’s account
• Pressures recipients to make urgent payments and to disguise the purpose of bank transfers, for example using friends or family as payment references

Please be assured:
• The Council and the Mayor do not run prize draws or competitions of this nature
• We would never ask for money to release winnings
• We would never ask for payments to be disguised or sent urgently

If you receive a message like this, do not respond, do not send any money, and report it to reportfraud.police.uk. If you are unsure about any communication claiming to be from the Town Council, please contact us directly using official contact details.

Please share this post to help protect others in the community.

🚧 Fortuna Pontoon Improvements at Bath Road Recreation Ground 🚧

The Lymington Harbour Commissioners will shortly be carrying out improvement works to the Fortuna Pontoon at Bath Road Recreation Ground.

The project involves installing a larger power supply cable to support the soon to be upgraded pontoons. This essential work will be carried out by contractors for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, with trenching undertaken by Earlcoate.

Some temporary disruption is expected along the Berthon fence line and along the sea wall up to the entry gantry to the pontoon while the trench is dug and the new cable installed.

📅 Works are due to start on 16 February 2026
⏳ The programme is expected to take up to two weeks, depending on weather conditions
🌱 All affected ground will be fully reinstated once works are complete

Lymington & Pennington Town Council is supportive of the Harbour Commissioners investment in improving the pontoons, which will provide long term benefits for harbour users and the local community.

Thank you for your patience while these important improvements are carried out.
