🚒 Drill Night This Week 🌧️

With the rain setting in, we headed down to Monmouth Car Park and made the most of the conditions. The crew carried out pumping drills, built improvised dams, and discussed how we can effectively use the equipment on the appliance to combat flooding incidents.

A great opportunity to train in realistic conditions and sharpen skills that are vital for supporting our community when severe weather hits.

🚤🔥 Boat Fire Safety Week – Stay Safe on the Water 🔥🚤

With the recent warmer weather drawing more people to the coast, there has been an increase in boat activity out of Lyme Regis Harbour and across the wider Dorset coastline.

During Boat Fire Safety Week, we’re reminding everyone that higher temperatures and increased usage can raise the risk of on-board fires.

Before you head out, please take a few minutes to check:
âś… Fuel lines, engines and electrics are in good condition.
âś… Fire extinguishers are on board, serviced, and easy to access.
âś… Engines are switched off during refuelling.
âś… Engine spaces are ventilated before starting up.
âś… You have working smoke or carbon monoxide alarms where possible.
âś…Lifejackets are serviced and worn when around the water.

A fire on the water can develop rapidly and help may not be immediately available.

Taking simple precautions can make all the difference.

Let’s keep our coastline safe this summer. Please share this message and look out for each other on the water. More information can be found here:

🚨 Fire Call – 09:21 | 10 May 2026 🚨

We were called to a bin fire this morning after a recycling and general waste bin ignited, melting both containers and spread to a nearby fence panel.

On our arrival, the fire had already been extinguished thanks to the quick thinking of a neighbour.

Our crew used a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to check for and cool down any remaining hotspots, ensuring the area was safe. After a thorough inspection, we were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The crew returned to station at 10:00.

⚠️ Safety Reminder
It’s important to check item packaging before disposal. This will tell you which bin to use—and just as importantly—what not to put in general waste.
Common items such as:
🔋 Batteries
🛢️ Oils
🧪 Solvents
…must be disposed of correctly, as they can easily cause fires if placed in the wrong bin.

🚨🚨Fire Call 🚨🚨

Tuesday 28th April, 15:43

Lyme Regis Fire Crew were mobilised to a fire on Monmouth Beach. Upon arrival, crews discovered a large washed-up tree smouldering at a very high temperature.

Due to the risk of reignition, it was determined that a substantial volume of water would be required to sufficiently cool the tree. A Light Portable Pump was deployed, along with two lengths of hose, to draw water directly from the sea.

This incident serves as a reminder that fires are not permitted on Monmouth Beach, as the area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

This week's drill night.

This week’s drill night took us down to the Cobb, where the crew split into two groups for some practical training.

Group 1 focused on familiarisation with the Light Portable Pump (LPP). They assembled the equipment, achieved a prime, and successfully supplied seawater to a hose operator.

Group 2 tackled a rescue scenario involving a casualty positioned at a 5-metre drop. Using the 10.5m ladder and appropriate safe working at height equipment, they carried out the exercise safely and effectively.

A solid session building confidence and reinforcing key operational skills.

The crew were alerted this afternoon to a seagull that had got itself stuck in some roof netting along the highstreet. Crews used cutters to free the netting around the birds foot, it then flew off without injury. The crew returned to station at 18:30.

đźš‘ Familiarisation Training & Fire Call đźš’

This Thursday and Friday we delivered familiarisation training sessions in CPR for Woodroffe students. During the sessions, students learned when and how to carry out CPR, how to use a defibrillator, and how to place someone into the recovery position.

We were very impressed with the students’ enthusiasm and engagement. We hope they enjoyed the sessions and took away some valuable, potentially life‑saving knowledge.

🔥 Fire Call – Thursday 23rd April, 10:20 🔥

Just as crews returned from Woodroffe and were busy returning equipment, we were alerted to a local AFA. This made for a very speedy turnout! The alarm was found to be caused by some burnt cooking. The crew returned to the station shortly afterwards.

🚒 **Fire Call – 20:08 | Wednesday 22nd April**

Lyme's crew were called to a fire on Monmouth Beach this evening.

Crews arrived promptly and were able to prevent the fire from escalating further after it had already begun to spread and ignite the dry vegetation on the cliff face.

Fires in this area are strictly prohibited due to its SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) classification. We’d like to remind everyone to take extra care and avoid lighting fires in protected areas.

The crew returned to the station at 21:00 and are now back on service.

đźš’ Monday Drill Night đźš’

Last night our crew put in a busy and productive drill session, starting with a whole‑station fitness assessment 💪

Firefighters completed step tests and treadmill assessments to check endurance and fitness — a crucial part of staying safe and operational on the job.

We then moved on to equipment testing, deploying both our 13.5m and 10.5m ladders using the drill tower just outside the station.

To finish the evening, we headed down to Monmouth Beach to test our appliance pump and hose reel jets 🌊

A great all‑round drill covering fitness, skills, and equipment readiness — well done to everyone involved 👏🔥
