TOWN MILL - “part powered by water - mostly powered by volunteers”

We’re raising a toast to our wonderful volunteers this week as we mark National Volunteers Week.

We are fortunate to have an army of volunteers here and they are the absolute life-blood of the mill keeping it open 7 days a week for visitors to enjoy.

In fact, it is their very contribution to Town Mill that enables us to offer free entry to everyone, because they fulfil roles as qualified Millers, Mill and Shop stewards, flour baggers, machinery maintenance, making and creating and gardening. The list goes on and on!

Without them, Town Mill could not exist as it does - as a home for businesses, as a heritage site and an artistic hub - so we are beyond grateful for everything they invest; and this can be hard in winter in an un-heated mill!

So a huge thank you to our volunteers - you’re a bunch of absolute marvels 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Celebrating 25 years of The Town Mill this evening with a special event at the Malthouse Gallery, marking a quarter-century of this historic site.

Earlier in the afternoon, guided “highlights” tours of the mill site showcased the recent improvements made possible through support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The Town Mill hosted a highly successful Millfest over the Bank Holiday weekend, marking 25 years since the historic site was saved from dereliction and transformed into a thriving creative hub in the heart of Lyme Regis.

The free, family-friendly festival featured live music, including a performance by local band Hot Java, alongside artisan craft demonstrations, food and drink tastings, children’s activities, and interactive experiences throughout the weekend.

Visitors also had the chance to meet the volunteer millers, see the working watermill in action, and discover more about traditional flour milling and brewing techniques.

We’ve got a fantastic programme of events for Mill Fest - which runs right across the Bank Holiday weekend down at Town Mill.

We’re hosting a free to visit celebration - marking 25 fantastic years since Town Mill re-opened to the public and started milling flour again.

We think we’ve got something for everyone from heritage craftsmen and women, special pop-up events from milling to jewellery making plus talks and tastings - all with a background of live music plus eats and drinks. Take a look at our AT A GLANCE poster below ⬇️
