Lutterworth College

Lutterworth College Lutterworth College, formerly Lutterworth Grammar School, is a mixed comprehensive school for 1600+ students aged 11-19 in Leicestershire.

There has been a school on the site since 1880. Lutterworth Grammar School grew from a relatively small boys’ grammar eventually into a large mixed comprehensive school in 1967. In 2006, Governors agreed to change the school’s name to Lutterworth College, to reflect the fact that we are not a selective institution, but rather an inclusive one. As the school has grown in size (from around 750 in 19

67 to over 2000 today) the facilities have grown and improved, yet the site remains in a beautiful setting in rural Leicestershire.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the new school year. I hope that everybody has had an enjoyable and restful summer break with friends and family.

On Wednesday last week, we welcomed our new Year 7 cohort into the school. As always, they bounded in with enthusiasm and excitement for the opportunities that secondary school will offer. If you are a new family to the school, the weekly newsletter will be the main form of communication. I would therefore encourage families to take a few minutes each week to read the newsletter and pick up on the key messages.

On Friday, the rest of the school returned, beginning with assemblies for all year groups. These provided an opportunity to welcome students back, share any key changes and reiterate our standards and expectations for the year ahead.

Mr Parry-Shovlin has also delivered a broadcast to students to answer some queries regarding Hush pouches. The key messages are:
• Morning routine: All students who require a pouch should now have one. If a pouch is accidentally locked before the phone has been placed inside, students should use the supervised unlock points at Gate 3 or the Laurels before coming further onto site. From the 8.35am bell, any phone found outside a locked pouch will be confiscated, with home contacted to arrange collection.

• Hush pouch practicalities: A forgotten pouch can be collected from the Uniform Store. Replacement pouches are available from the Library at a cost of £12.

• End of the school day: From next week, all students will leave at 3.10pm. Students are therefore being asked to spread out across the unlocking points, particularly using the Laurels if they are walking home, to reduce queues around the bus lanes.

It is important that students know and understand the value of their education. Please try to find some time each evening to talk to your children about how their day has gone, what lessons they have had and what they have learnt. I have been really impressed by the way students have responded to these expectations, and I thank families in advance for your support and reinforcement of these messages at home.

It's time to celebrate our first batch of Faculty Stars of the Week!

Star of the Week is one of the ways we recognise students who are living out our ‘Be CHRIST’ values.

Students can be awarded credits by staff for showing Courage, Hard work, Reflection, Inspiration, Support or Tenacity. Each credit is worth 3 points, and students can earn as many as they can.

At the end of each week, every faculty holds a lottery-style draw to choose their Faculty Star of the Week. The more credits a student has earned, the greater their chance of being picked.

Each winner receives £2.50 on their student account as a little reward.

Congratulations to this week’s Faculty Stars of the Week!

We’re looking forward to welcoming students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 back to Lutterworth College tomorrow!

A few quick reminders before the new academic year gets underway:

- The bell rings at 8.35am, and students should head straight to their mentor rooms.
- Students should arrive in full College uniform, with their lanyard and ID card, and with all the equipment they need for the day.
- If anyone needs a reminder of their timetable, this can be checked on Go 4 Schools.
- Mentor time will be extended tomorrow to give students time for some important start-of-term activities.

There’ll also be an important change to our mobile phone arrangements tomorrow as we introduce Hush pouches.

When students arrive on site in the morning, the usual College rules will apply initially, so phones should be switched off and out of sight from the moment students arrive on site.

Students will then be issued with their Hush pouches during the morning and shown how to use them. From that point onwards, phones and other covered devices should be secured in their pouches for the remainder of the school day.

Parents and carers were sent full start-of-term information by email, so please do have another look if you need any of the finer details.

Information about the return arrangements for students in Years 12 and 13 has also been emailed directly to their parents and carers.

We hope everyone has had a fantastic summer – we’re ready for a brilliant year ahead.

See you tomorrow!

We’ve had a fantastic first day with our new Year 7 students today. They’ve made a brilliant start, and it’s been lovely seeing them finding their feet around the College.

Just a few reminders for tomorrow’s second induction day:

- Students should come to College in their PE kit tomorrow, rather than normal uniform, because of the activities taking place during the day.

- Please make sure students bring the equipment listed in our induction letter, including a reading book.

- Students have now been issued with their Hush pouches and know that, from tomorrow, any phones and other covered devices must be switched off, placed inside the pouch and locked before they enter the College site. Please remind them that they should only close and lock their pouch once their devices are safely inside it – once locked, the pouch cannot be opened away from one of our College unlocking points.

Finally, students’ individual school photographs will be taken on Friday. Students should therefore be back in full normal College uniform on Friday, including their blazer, and looking as smart as possible!

Thanks for your support – we’re looking forward to another great day with Year 7 tomorrow.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students to Lutterworth College tomorrow!

Tomorrow marks the start of their two induction days, with plenty planned to help everyone settle in, find their way around and get to know their new classmates, mentors and teachers.

A few quick reminders:

• Students can arrive from 8.00am, ready for the school day to begin at 8.40am.
• Students should enter through Gate 3, opposite the car park across the road from the College.
• Tomorrow, students should attend in full College uniform. On Thursday, they should wear their College PE kit.
• The school day finishes at 3.10pm.

Parents and carers should have received an email from us last week containing all the information needed for the induction days, including what students should bring, catering arrangements and other useful reminders.

There’ll be tours, taster lessons, mentor activities, a house competition and plenty more across the two days.

We hope our new Year 7s are excited – we certainly are. We’ll see you tomorrow!

Dear Parents/Carers

As another year draws to a close, I want to thank you for the support you have given Lutterworth College over the past twelve months. Schools achieve their very best when families and staff work together, and we are incredibly grateful for the partnership we enjoy with our parents and carers.

Last week we gathered as a school community for our annual Commemoration Day service. Whilst only a small number of families are able to attend in person, it remains one of the most important events in our school calendar because it reminds us who we are as a community. It gives us the opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate our present and look with confidence towards our future.

Our history stretches back to 1880. For almost a century and a half, generations of young people have walked through our gates with hopes, ambitions and perhaps a few nerves about what lay ahead. Thousands have learnt here, discovered talents they never knew they possessed, formed lifelong friendships and gone on to make a positive contribution to the communities in which they live and work.

One of the great privileges of being Headteacher is welcoming former students back into school. They often return many years later with families of their own, eager to show their children where their own journey began.

What always strikes me is what they remember.

They speak about teachers who believed in them, friendships that have lasted a lifetime, school productions, sports teams, residential visits and moments that seemed ordinary at the time but have stayed with them ever since. Rarely do they begin by talking about examination grades.

That isn’t because examinations don’t matter. They absolutely do, and our students have worked exceptionally hard throughout this year.

But with the benefit of time, people often realise that education is about far more than qualifications. It is about becoming the person you will one day be. It is about developing resilience when life is difficult, learning how to work with others, discovering your character and building the confidence to make a positive difference in the world around you.

As we reach the end of the year, it is also an opportunity to thank those members of staff who are moving on to new opportunities.

To every colleague who is leaving us this summer, thank you. We wish each of you every success and happiness in the future.

During Commemoration Day I spoke directly to our Year 7 students, who have now completed their first year with us.

It can be difficult, particularly when you’re eleven years old, to appreciate just how quickly these school years will pass. One day they will be the former students returning through the gates, smiling at memories that only they and their friends truly understand.

Between now and then, every lesson, every challenge and every opportunity will help shape the adults they become.

As many of you will know, one of the stories that captured people’s imagination during this summer’s World Cup has been the remarkable journey of Cape Verde.

Competing against nations with far larger populations, greater resources and many more household names, they earned admiration not because they were expected to succeed, but because of how they approached every game. They were disciplined, committed, resilient and worked tirelessly for one another.

There is a lesson in that for all of us.

Success is rarely determined simply by natural talent. More often it is built through consistency, determination and the willingness to support those around us. The small decisions we make each day, the effort we choose to give, the kindness we show and the resilience we display when things become difficult all shape the people we become.

That philosophy lies at the heart of our school.

Every day we encourage our students to be courageous when faced with challenge, to work hard even when something feels difficult, to inspire others through their actions, to support those around them and to persevere when success does not come immediately.

These values are not simply words displayed on our walls. They are the habits that prepare young people not just for examinations, but for life beyond school.

As another successful year comes to an end, I would like to thank our wonderful staff for their unwavering commitment to our students, and you, our parents and carers, for the encouragement you provide your children every single day.

Finally, I would like to congratulate our students.

Whether they have excelled academically, represented the College in sport, performed on stage, supported charitable causes, shown kindness to others or simply worked hard every day, each student has contributed something positive to our community this year. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved.

To those students leaving us this summer, thank you for everything you have given to Lutterworth College. We look forward to hearing about all that you accomplish in the years ahead.

Enjoy the opportunity to rest, spend time with family and friends, and create new memories over the summer. I wish you and your families a safe, restful and enjoyable summer break.
