โœˆ๏ธ Busy Start to the Day at London Luton Airport ๐Ÿš”

Itโ€™s been one of those mornings where everything seems to happen at once here at London Luton Airport โ€“ a real reminder of the variety and unpredictability of airport policing.

Our teams have been kept on their toes from the early hours, dealing with two medical emergencies, ensuring those involved received the urgent care they needed, working closely with our airport and ambulance partners.

At the same time, officers responded to a theft in Duty Free, making sure enquiries were carried out swiftly to support staff and protect businesses operating within the terminal.

In a separate incident, a wanted male attempting to leave the country was identified and arrested, preventing them from evading justice โ€“ a great example of proactive policing and vigilance by our officers.

Elsewhere, four further arrests were made following thefts from Sainsburyโ€™s. As part of that work, the vehicle involved was also seized due to having no insurance, removing a potential risk from the road network around the airport.

And just as things werenโ€™t busy enoughโ€ฆ we also dealt with a red drone alert in the vicinity of the airport. Thankfully, this was resolved quickly, but itโ€™s a strong reminder that flying drones near airports is illegal and extremely dangerous.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Reminder:
If you own a drone, always check the rules before flying. Airspace around airports is restricted for a reason โ€“ it protects passengers, crew and aircraft.

A huge well done to all officers and partners involved this morning โ€“ teamwork, quick thinking, and professionalism on display throughout.

Laser Strikes on Aircraft ๐Ÿ”Ž

Shining a laser at an aircraft might seem harmless โ€” but it can have dangerous and potentially lifeโ€‘threatening consequences. In 2025 police forces in the UK, and the CAA recorded over 1,000 laser strike incidents against aircraft (Civil Aviation Authority statistics) including incidents occurring in Bedfordshire here at Luton Airport.

Pilots rely on clear vision during critical phases of flight, especially when taking off and landing. A laser beam can:

โ€ข Temporarily blind or dazzle pilots
โ€ข Cause disorientation and distraction
โ€ข Endanger everyone on board, as well as people on the ground

It is not a prank โ€” it is a criminal offence under the Air Navigation Order 2016 and the Laser Misuse Act 2018, and those found responsible for laser strikes on aircraft and air traffic facilities can face:

โ€ข Arrest and prosecution
โ€ข Substantial fines
โ€ข Prison sentences of up to 5 years

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ We take reports of laser incidents extremely seriously and will investigate thoroughly and deal with offenders robustly.

If you witness someone using a laser irresponsibly, particularly near an airport or aircraft, please report it to police. If you have a child that has a laser pointer please take the time to educate them on the risks of it's misuse and the dangers it may pose.

๐ŸŒ™ A different view of the airport after dark.

From the terminal piers, overlooking the stands and hangars, our officers continue Project Servator patrols through the night โ€” when the pace may slow, but the vigilance never does.

Working alongside airport partners, we maintain a visible and unpredictable presence to deter, detect and disrupt criminal activity, keeping both passengers and staff safe around the clock.

You might not always see us โ€” but weโ€™re always there.

Our officers continue to patrol around London Luton Airport to help identify suspicious activity linked to illegal parking operators and vehicle collection services.

Criminals often rely on passengers being in a rush or distracted before a flight.

Take a moment to check:
๐Ÿš— Who is collecting your vehicle
๐Ÿ“ฑ Whether the business is legitimate
๐Ÿ“ Where your vehicle will actually be stored

A few minutes of checking could prevent major problems later.
