The reserve has a huge expanse of water, woodland and marshes, home to a wide variety of fantastic wildlife. Our House Rules:
We love to hear from Suffolk Wildlife Trust members and supporters, to see your photos and hear your ideas and suggestions. All we ask is that users are respectful of others and keep their posts polite, civil and suitable for all ages. We do not tolerate any content that is offensive or abusive including material that is obscene, violent, aggressive, argumentative, harassing, defamatory, unlawful, insulting, indecent or otherwise objectionable. This includes any language that can be construed as offensive, sexist, racist or homophobic. Please note that we retain the right to hide or remove any comments that we consider inappropriate. This extends to spamming and any material judged to be off-topic in subject-specific areas. We retain the right to block individuals who ignore this policy and post inappropriate content on our page. Moderation:
In general, we don’t moderate posts on our page or groups – except when offensive language is used or libellous allegations are made. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is a last resort and very unusual, our position is that any post containing libellous accusations should be removed. If an individual posts content contrary to our House Rules (see above) then we reserve the right to block that person from the page.

📣Calling All Local Crafters📣

Are you a local crafter who sells interesting homemade products that would fit with Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s passion for wildlife and the environment? 🍃

If so, why not apply for a table at the 2026 Carlton Marshes Christmas Craft Fair? This year’s event is on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November from 10am to 4pm.

You’ll be inside our visitor centre for both days of the event. Visitors will book a timed slot online, making visitor numbers and car parking easier to manage for vendors and for us.

We expect to have lots of interest both from both vendors and from visitors to the fair, and we have limited places available. So, if you’d like to apply, please email a two-sentence bio and a few images of the items you’d plan to sell to [email protected].

Please note, we can only accept vendors who are available for both days of the event. We also encourage hands-on experiences for our visitors and families to get involved in, so please make sure you include enough detail when contacting us.

Hope to see you there! 🎄

Great news from the reserve recently! A Marsh Harrier (VF) tagged at Carlton Marshes on 15th June was photographed at Mockerkin Tarn, West Cumbria on 25th August during its post-natal wandering. This journey can range within the UK or into Europe, with some tagged birds even being recorded in Africa, and can last a few years before settling down to breed. Highlighting the importance of tagging and monitoring these species.

If you happen to photograph a marsh harrier on the reserve or further afield, with the tag clearly visible, please send it to us; this helps provide really valuable information towards one of our most charismatic species in Suffolk.

🌿 Another jam-packed week at Carlton Marshes! 🌞

As the summer holidays start to draw to a close, we’ve packed in plenty of muddy adventures, wildlife discoveries and creativity amongst mixture of weather!

We started off the week with our usual Wild Tots session before welcoming our childminding group, who were delighted to see the return of the puddles and mud after all that rain! 💦🪵

Our Holiday Club got stuck into some d**e dipping, discovering dragonfly nymphs and even a water stick insect! 🦟🪲 Unfortunately, the weather had the final say, and we ended the day getting absolutely soaked as we raced to escape a thunderstorm! ⛈️😂

On Friday, we had the final session of our Family Wild Beach events 🌊. We explored the plants growing along the beach, discovered some lesser-known marine species and got creative with more beach-inspired crafts. 🐚🌿🎨

Our Young Wardens were hard at work on Saturday, helping to rebuild the fence in our education woodland and making sure it remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. 🔨🌳

And finally, we rounded off the week with a lovely sunny birthday party! 🎉 There was more d**e dipping, natural crafts and plenty of outdoor fun to celebrate.

What a way to finish another busy week of summer adventures! 💚🌞
