Our estate is currently bursting with life, never is there a second where you wont hear birdsong somewhere around you whilst touring our grounds. This is why we've invested in the BirdWeather app as well as a number of PUC's to pickup and track our local avian wildlife.

You too can follow the wildlife journey of our estate by downloading the BirdWeather app below and connecting to our stations where you can see, listen and learn about what our skies have to offer.

The estates owl populations are on the rise as new nests have been identified for both tawny and barn owls.

Join our all new cattle and grain tour coming this June 30th, a walking guide through our arable and pasture fields to see and learn about our farming in action.

This week we’re listening out for the Sand Martin, the UK’s smallest swallow, recognised by its brown upperparts and distinctive dark chest band.

These early migrants arrive in spring and are often seen darting low over water, feeding on insects close to the surface.

Unlike other swallows, Sand Martins nest in colonies, excavating tunnels into sandy banks along rivers, lakes and quarries. Their presence is closely linked to suitable nesting habitats and healthy aquatic ecosystems.

At South Ormsby, restored water margins and naturalised banks offer increasing opportunities for species like these to settle and breed.

Our skylarks are singing louder than ever before.

Recorded skylark calls on the estate have risen from 378 to 5092 over the last year, more than 13 times the levels seen last may. They've been recorded on every birdweather PUC except for one, most notably in the Calceby and Ketsby areas. The recordings for this species and more can be accessed by you at home on the birdweather app.

The skylark is a year round member of the UK wildlife scene which nests in 20-50cm high vegetation and a diet of insects, spiders and seeds. Acting as one of 19 species making up the UK Farmland Bird Indicator, a measure of agricultural farmland health, we are very happy to welcome more of them to our estate.

Skylark numbers have dropped 63% since 1967, but have seen a gradual recovery starting in 2016. We are proud to aid in facilitating this recovery through our organic approach to farming and hope to see and hear more of them in years to come.
