Housing in Long Eaton is one of the issues residents raise with me most
Many young people who grow up in Long Eaton are finding it increasingly difficult to afford to buy or rent a home in our town. At the same time, concerns continue to be raised about the growth of HMOs and the impact this has on the availability of housing for local residents.
Erewash Borough Council will be holding a Council meeting on 17 June, and I have submitted a question asking what measures are being taken to ensure that future housing developments in Long Eaton provide genuinely affordable homes, including starter homes and smaller properties for local people.
I have also asked how the Council intends to prevent new housing stock from being absorbed into the buy to let and HMO market rather than helping to meet local housing need.
Unfortunately I will be away at the time of the meeting, but I will share the response once it has been received.
Housing should work for the people who live here aswell, especially young people and families who want to build their future in Long Eaton.
π‘ KEY LOCAL PLAN MEETING CONFIRMED
Residents following Erewash's emerging Local Plan have raised concerns after weeks of confusion over when key discussions would take place.
It has now been confirmed that an Extraordinary Council meeting focusing on the Local Plan will take place on:
π
Wednesday, 17 June
π 7pm
πLong Eaton Town Hall
The meeting will be open to the public and residents can attend to observe proceedings.
However, anyone wishing to submit a formal public question must do so by **5pm on Friday, 5 June** by emailing [email protected]
Some residents have also questioned the process, as the deadline for public questions falls before the meeting agenda and supporting reports are published.
According to information provided by the council, public questions must be submitted seven clear working days before a meeting, while agendas are published five clear working days beforehand.
The Local Plan will help shape future housing, employment land and infrastructure across Erewash and is expected to be one of the most significant issues facing the borough in the coming years.
