The Derry Walls The Friends of the Derry Walls is a local charitable organisation, helping local people to engage with the heritage of our walled town and the island of Derry.

Join us! The Derry Walls is the largest ancient monument in state care in Northern Ireland and claims the most intact circuit of ramparts of any of the surviving town walls in Ireland. Walls400 is a programme of activities that celebrate the 400th anniversary of the City Walls. Started in 2013, Walls400 explores the contested history that the City Walls represent and celebrates them as a present-d

ay, national heritage asset, with the potential to unite rather than separate people. Every year until 2019 we host a series of events so stay tuned!

Friends of the Derry Walls – June 2026 Lecture

“An Insight into the Derry ~Londonderry on the North Atlantic (DNA) Museum”

The Friends of The Derry Walls are delighted to announce that their June 2026 lecture is by Margaret Edwards and is titled the "An Insight into the Derry ~Londonderry on the North Atlantic (DNA) Museum". Margaret, who is the DCSDC Museum Service Manager will give a talk about how work on the new DNA Museum is progressing. The new DNA Museum which will be based on the historic Ebrington site will celebrate the city and wider district's connection with the North Atlantic and how our unique global stories and people associated with here have shaped this place and created our distinctive personality. This new museum will be an important addition to our historic city telling its unique story, and no doubt will become a flagship attraction when it is completed.

The Friends of the Derry Walls are delighted to announce that our May Lecture is titled History of St Columb’s Park House” by Grace Nelis, Project Leader St Columb’s Park House

Grace Nelis, Project Leader St Columb’s Park House will give a talk about the fascinating history of this iconic building. St. Columb’s Park House is a late-Georgian stately manor house with a walled garden sitting in the very heart of St Columb’s Park. Hidden now by the trees, it remains a hidden gem with a rich hidden history, known only by a few. Join us as we delve into the stories of the families who lived at St Columb’s Park House and learn about how they helped shape the city that we live in today.
