It was a ‘Good Morning’ with a lot of glamour this week up the town!!

After much research sharing, Shirt Factory chatting, emails and planning, it was wonderful to finally welcome Carwyn & Charlotte 💖 to the City - and to introduce them to some of the original Factory Girls who worked in the Shirt Factories - City Factory and Tillie & Henderson’s. ❤️❤️❤️

Derry’s Shirt Factory heritage and the legacy of its workers continues to reach far beyond the City, so it is always a pleasure to support another upcoming project shining a light on this rich and valuable history.

There are still so many stories to share from the workers who helped build the legacy🧵

Factory Girls are legenderry - still using their voices! ✊

& Shirt Factory Choir member & now local legend - Margaret McMonagle shares her views on the public art, while out on a dander on the peace bridge, with visiting MP Chris Bryant MP

After over a 20 year campaign for recognition of their efforts & impact on the cities economy, not ‘some’, but many, many former shirt factory workers & the people from the city & further afield, were left disappointed with the process & final piece which was unveiled in March 2025.

Please join me to launch Wartime With The Irish Factory Girls in Little Acorns Bookstore, Derry on Saturday, September 5 at 2pm.

Life is hard for Kathleen Deery. With five children to feed and her husband struggling to find steady work, the family depends on her wages at the infamous Tillie and Henderson shirt factory at the heart of Derry. Every shift is a battle against exhaustion, worry, and the constant fear of what tomorrow might bring.

But even in difficult times, the women of the factory look out for one another. And Kathleen finds unexpected comfort in her growing friendship with Celine – single, seemingly carefree, and always with a touch of glamour that lifts the factory floor. Yet Celine isn’t as untouched by hardship as she appears, and behind her bright smile lie secrets of her own.

When war breaks out in Europe, life in Northern Ireland is shaken once more. As pressure mounts and uncertainty grows, can the women of Tillie and Henderson’s hold each other together when everything else is pulling them apart?
