SKILLED WORKERS

While many migrants possess extensive work experience and strong academic or professional qualifications from their home countries, it is important to recognise that these credentials alone may not guarantee success in a new environment. Adaptability, networking, and an understanding of local professional norms are often equally essential.

AFRICAN TIME
Many Africans often joke about – and at times even take pride in – the practice of habitual lateness. Of course, life happens: an unexpected traffic jam, a road closure, or a sudden disruption can delay anyone on their way to work, an appointment, or a social gathering.
However, when lateness shifts from an occasional lapse to a consistent pattern, it can no longer be regarded as harmless. At that point, it conveys a far more serious message: a lack of responsibility.

Africa - Election - Democracy
Western democracy is built on the principle of individualism. In many African societies, people are raised with a strong sense of collective identity, where the needs and expectations of the group often take precedence over those of the individual. Challenging the group can lead to social rejection and, in some cases, even physical harm.

Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa

They came for the Nigerians, I kept quiet because I’m not a Nigerian.
They came for the Zimbabweans, I kept quiet because I’m not a Zimbabwean.
They came for the Tanzanians, I kept quiet because I’m not a Tanzanian.

Now, they are coming for me!!!

It is the duty of all “conscious” Africans to speak against the HATE & XENOPHOBIC attacks being committed by black South Africans against black immigrants in their country.

Enslaved people who attempted to escape were stepping into extreme danger. “Running away” wasn’t just leaving a place—it meant entering a world structured to hunt, punish, and return them to face even harsher punishment.

Ego Check

Historically, migration to a foreign country has often required individuals to begin anew. Skilled migrants – particularly those who previously occupied senior positions in Africa – must recognise this reality when relocating to Western countries. It is essential that they guard against an inflated sense of self importance and approach their new environment with pragmatism, adaptability, and realistic expectations.

The Slaughter of LUMUMBA

Their graves were already dug by the time they arrived at the bush. As Lumumba was been marched to his grave, he asked the Belgian police commissioner: ‘You’re going to kill us, aren’t you?’ The commissioner answered, ‘Yes.’

Marriage Meets Migration

African couples relocating to Western countries must anticipate and prepare for shifts in social roles, financial responsibilities, and expectations of mutual respect. Failure to adapt to these changes has contributed to the rising number of strained relationships and divorces reported among recently arrived African immigrant couples in countries such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

DISUNITED NATION

‘Nigeria is not a nation, but a mere geographical expression’. Many vilified Awolowo for this statement. Sir Ahmadu Bello was equally rebuked for referring to Nigeria as a ‘mistake’. However, the unending ethnic and religious conflicts and secession cries which have plagued Nigeria since independence show that Chief Awolowo and Sir Ahmadu Bello’s observations are worth examining.

COLONIAL HORROR

In 1903, Lord Lugard launched series of military expeditions across the Sokoto Caliphate. He obliterated the caliphate. Before the Sokoto invasion, most southern kingdoms had already been brought under British sovereignty. Winston Churchill described the expeditions as ‘butchery’ due to the gruesome manner in which the Sokoto people were slaughtered.
