Great to see Council at work. A month ago, benches were damaged beyond repair in ASB. Following public complaints, St Helens workers installed fine new benches. Seeing grateful seniors and families using them made our town proud.

We were out today in the sweltering heat litter picking the streets behind the town hall. There are some really challenging areas that have been neglected but bit by bit we will improve these. Cleaning up areas like this strengthens our collective sense of civic pride as well as making areas cleaner and safer. We will do more in the future and let us know through this page if you are interested in volunteering to get involved and watch this space for dates and times.

Well the dust has settled on the election campaign and congratulations to you on electing Jeremy Axworthy as your new Reform UK councillor. I was proud of the winning campaign we ran that was always positive and honest. It was a privilege to speak to so many of you on the door step and discuss, debate and dissect the issue you face in St Helens Town Centre ward. We picked up a number of issues that Jeremy will now take forward with you. Also Jeremy will join the rest of the St Helens Reform UK council to deliver improvements for you across the borough and continue to build the movement that can change the UK for the better.

We all have the privilege as citizens of this country to have a tiny piece of sovereignty with which to direct the country, region or town. Tomorrow you get an opportunity to exercise your right to steer that direction. Don’t waste it! St Helens needs Reform!

🌡️ Heatwave Safety Alert

As temperatures soar to record highs, please keep a close eye on those most at risk. Once temperatures reach 90°F (32°C), the risk of severe dehydration, heat exhaustion, and life-threatening heatstroke rises sharply .

✅ Check regularly on:

- Elderly people, especially those living alone
- Anyone with long-term health conditions, mobility issues, or taking certain medications
- Young children and babies

✅ Don’t forget pets:

- Always provide fresh, cool water and shade
- Never leave them in a car — temperatures can become fatal in minutes
- Test pavement with your hand; if too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws

Stay hydrated, keep windows shaded, and avoid the strongest sun between 10am–4pm. A quick check can save a life.

Fly-tipping is not a minor inconvenience. It damages neighbourhoods, creates health concerns, attracts vermin and leaves families feeling ignored in the very places they should feel safe and proud to call home.

Residents have told me they raised these issues with the outgoing Labour council months ago.

Too often, complaints were not answered, and the problem was left to get worse.

Our communities deserve better than being left with piles of waste, rat infestations and unanswered reports.

Every resident has the right to live on a clean, safe street and the council has a duty to act quickly when problems are reported.

We will listen, respond and take action.

No area should be treated as though it does not matter.

💡 A new inspection report has just been published, reviewing the performance of St Helens Borough Council SEND Children's Services.

It was authored in response to an inspection by OFSTED and the Care Quality Commission in Jan/Feb 2026.

It’s important to be clear about the context around this SEND inspection report, and we understand certain issues have since been resolved.

The inspection itself took place under the previous Labour administration, at a time when they had full control of the council and accountability for the service. However, the findings have only now been released - after the election.

We should also be clear: these issues did not appear overnight. They are the result of long-standing challenges that were not addressed at the time.

That said, our focus is not on deflecting responsibility.

We are serious about fixing this.

We are committed to:

- Understanding the full scale of the issues

- Working openly with families, schools and partners

- Putting in place a clear and accountable improvement plan

- Holding a SEND roundtable with key stakeholders

We will also be bringing forward a detailed improvement plan later this year, setting out exactly how we will address the issues identified and drive real change.

Residents deserve honesty, and more importantly, they deserve a service that works.

This administration is focused on delivery, improvement, and getting results for children and families.
