Who do I ask for help when I don’t even know what help we need?

Your child is going out late at night.
They seem anxious and secretive.
New clothes and possessions are appearing.

Something feels different. But what?

How can parents recognise child exploitation if no one has ever helped them understand the signs?

Early intervention starts with awareness.

Giving families the right information, at the right time, can help them recognise concerns earlier, ask questions sooner and know where to turn for support.

Every child deserves safety education they can understand, remember, and use.

When children feel scared or unsafe, they do not remember long explanations.

They remember:
• Simple phrases
• Repetition
• Songs
• Actions
• Confidence-building practice

That is why early prevention matters.

Children cannot use safety tools they have never been taught — or messages they do not understand.

The My Body Is My Body Foundation - Keeping Children was created to help children learn simple body safety messages in ways that are engaging, memorable, and easy to use in real life.

Through music, stories, repetition, and interactive activities, we help children:
💙 Build confidence
💙 Recognise unsafe situations
💙 Learn how to say “No”
💙 Identify trusted adults
💙 Speak up when something does not feel right

Prevention starts with preparation.

Safeguarding should not begin after harm occurs.
We need to equip children with knowledge, confidence, and supportive communities before danger appears.

Simple Safety Messages. Lifelong Impact.

Together, we can help build safer futures for children everywhere.

We teach children about road safety.
We teach them about fire safety.
We teach them about online safety.

So why do we wait until crisis before we teach safeguarding?
What if safeguarding became something children understood early…not as a scary word connected to social services or punishment, but as:
• looking out for each other
• understanding emotions
• recognising unsafe situations
• knowing how to ask for help
• creating safe spaces to talk
• learning kindness, empathy, and healthy boundaries

Because safeguarding is not just a process. It’s a culture.

I’ve been developing a child-friendly safeguarding concept focused on emotional wellbeing, leadership, compassion, peer awareness, and early intervention for young people.
Not fear-based.
Not overwhelming.
Not system-heavy.

Just real conversations that help children understand:
“safe people create safe spaces.”
If we normalise these conversations early, we reduce stigma, increase understanding, and create safer communities together.

I genuinely believe we need to start bringing safeguarding into everyday language in a way children can understand, relate to, and carry into adulthood.

What are your thoughts?
Should safeguarding education begin earlier in schools and communities?

We KNOW child exploitation is happening. And we know it is a heinous crime, that destroys lives!

So let me ask you this:
What are YOU doing about it?

Not social workers.
Not police.
Not schools.

YOU.

Because exploited children are sitting in:
Hotels.
Taxis.
Fast food restaurants.
Shops.
Train stations.
Schools.
Parks.
Neighbourhoods.

Right in front of adults.

And still being missed.

Have you ever seen something that made you uncomfortable…
but talked yourself out of it?

“That’s none of my business.”
“I’m probably overthinking it.”
“Someone else will deal with it.”

Meanwhile that child may be terrified.
Controlled.
Threatened.
Exploited.
Trapped.

Children rarely walk up to adults and say:
“I’m being exploited.”

Which is why safeguarding depends on adults noticing what children cannot safely say.

A child who looks withdrawn.
Fearful.
Controlled by older individuals, or new friends.
Changes in behaviours.
Exhausted.
Repeatedly going missing.
Suddenly carrying money, gifts or phones.

These are not things to ignore.

Professional curiosity saves lives.
Speaking up saves lives.
Trusting your gut saves lives.

We need to stop waiting for more tragedy, before we pay attention.

Child exploitation survives in silence.
In avoidance.
In adults doubting themselves.
In people being too afraid to ask questions.

Enough.

Every adult has a responsibility to protect children.

Not tomorrow.
Now.
