Yesterday we held a Ward Walk across Hatch Lane and Highams Park North, joined by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Perkins, alongside council officers. This was an important opportunity to highlight the issues that residents have raised with us and ensure that decision-makers see first-hand the challenges facing our community.
It was particularly encouraging to see the new Council Leader taking such a proactive interest in our ward, listening directly to residents’ concerns and gaining a real understanding of the unique needs of Hatch Lane and Highams Park North. We believe that seeing issues on the ground is the best way to drive meaningful change.
During the walk, we visited roads including Coney Burrows, Wyemead Crescent, Weale Road and Friday Hill West. The condition of many of these roads is simply not good enough. Residents have been raising concerns about deteriorating road surfaces for far too long, and we made it clear that these roads need investment, attention and resurfacing. Our residents deserve safe, well-maintained streets, regardless of where they live in the borough.
We also discussed a wide range of issues that affect daily life for local people, including the lack of investment in Chingford compared with other parts of the borough, support for local shops and businesses, parking charges, business rates, dog fouling, antisocial behaviour, begging and drug-related activity, improvements to the Hatch Lane underpass and the future of the local police front desk.
As your ward councillors we reiterated loud and clear: Hatch Lane and Highams Park North cannot continue to be overlooked. Our community deserves its fair share of funding, investment and services. Residents work hard, pay their taxes and deserve clean streets, safer neighbourhoods, thriving local businesses and infrastructure that is fit for purpose.
As your councillors, we are determined to be strong voices for our community. We are not interested in simply talking about problems, we are focused on securing solutions and delivering improvements that make a real difference to people’s everyday lives. Whether that is pushing for road resurfacing, tackling antisocial behaviour, improving local facilities or fighting for greater investment in Chingford, we will continue to stand up for residents every step of the way.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us today and share their concerns. Your views help shape the work we do and strengthen our case for action.
We will keep listening, keep challenging and keep fighting to make Hatch Lane, Highams Park North and Chingford better places to live, work and raise a family.
