Honouring Ed Mackenzie & The Elysium Memorial
Today we want to express our deep respect and gratitude to Ed Mackenzie and the Elysium Memorial Foundation for their extraordinary work in bringing The Weary Hero memorial to life, the first UK memorial dedicated solely to those lost to .
Ed’s persistence, compassion, and leadership have created something truly historic. His mission speaks directly to what so many of us in the Lariam community have fought for: recognition, dignity, and a national acknowledgement of the lives we’ve lost.
The BBC reports 277 veteran su***des from 2006–2025, yet our own validated records within the veteran community show far higher numbers in recent years alone. Behind every statistic is a family, a story, and a preventable tragedy.
And one question must now be asked with honesty and courage:
How many of these men and women were prescribed Lariam during their service, and were they ever screened, monitored, or even asked?
Ed’s work ensures that those we’ve lost are no longer invisible. His memorial stands as a place of remembrance, but also as a call for truth, accountability, and change.
We are proud of what Ed has achieved, and proud that our community’s efforts have helped push this issue into the national light.
Thank you, Ed. Your work honours them all.
