The Embassy of Ethiopia in London hosted a consultative meeting with members of the Ethiopian diaspora working in the financial sector following the National Bank of Ethiopia’s recent international recognition for its financial market reforms.

Opening the event, H.E. Ambassador Lalisa Berhanu highlighted the Government of Ethiopia’s ongoing financial sector reforms and underscored the significance of the National Bank of Ethiopia’s achievement as a reflection of the country’s commitment to economic modernization.

Dr. Naoll Addisu, Senior Technology Advisor to the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia and Project Manager of the Central Securities Depository initiative, briefed participants on the reforms that earned the National Bank of Ethiopia the prestigious Central Banking Award for Payments and Market Infrastructure Development – Wholesale.

Dr. Naoll highlighted Ethiopia’s successful transition from paper-based government securities to modern electronic systems through the establishment of the Central Securities Depository and the Tsega Investor Portal. He noted that these reforms have enhanced transparency, improved market efficiency, strengthened monetary policy operations, and expanded opportunities for investor participation.

He further emphasized that the modernization of the government securities market represents a major milestone in Ethiopia’s broader financial sector reform agenda and lays the foundation for the development of a modern capital market.

The event concluded with an interactive discussion during which participants exchanged views and raised questions on Ethiopia’s financial sector reforms and capital market development.

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission/የኢትዮጵያ ሀገራዊ ምክክር ኮሚሽን has announced that the National Dialogue Conference will officially open on Hamle 8, 2018 E.C. (15 July 2026) in Addis Ababa.

The Commission says the ongoing dialogue process aims to address long-standing political and social differences through inclusive national consultations involving citizens, regional representatives, and key stakeholders across the country.

It adds that the process has reached most parts of Ethiopia, with participation from regional states, city administrations, women representatives, universities, business leaders, and the diaspora.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening national consensus, rebuilding trust, and promoting unity through dialogue.

Ethiopian Airlines’ Cargo & Logistics Services division has won two major honors at the Aviation Achievement Awards (AAA) held in Dubai, reaffirming its position as a leader in Africa’s air cargo and logistics industry.

The airline’s cargo division received the awards for Cargo Airline of the Year (Africa) and Air Cargo Pharma Service of the Year (Africa), recognizing its outstanding performance, operational excellence, and commitment to innovation in air freight and specialized logistics services.

The Air Cargo Pharma Service of the Year (Africa) award highlights Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services’ proven capability in handling and transporting temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare products in accordance with international quality and safety standards. The recognition underscores the division’s reliability and expertise in supporting the global healthcare supply chain.

In a statement following the announcement, Ethiopian Airlines said the awards reflect its unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and world-class service. The airline also expressed its appreciation to its customers, business partners, and employees whose dedication and hard work contributed to the achievement.

Ethiopia has reaffirmed the importance of cultural diversity as a driver of peace, inclusion and sustainable development during a special observance of the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development held at the House of Lords in London. The event, organized under the theme 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘺𝘢 — 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦-𝘵𝘰-𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 — brought together diplomats, policymakers and community leaders to reflect on the role of culture in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

Speaking at the gathering, Ethiopia's Deputy Head of Mission to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Ambassador Lalisa Berhanu, said cultural diversity should be viewed not as a challenge to be managed but as a strength that enables societies to grow together. He underscored the importance of inclusion, noting that when communities feel recognized, respected and represented, development becomes more stable, meaningful and sustainable.

Ambassador Lalisa highlighted Ethiopia's experience as a nation of diverse cultures, languages and traditions, emphasizing the country's growing recognition that national unity is strengthened when diversity is embraced within a shared national identity. He noted that this approach is increasingly reflected in Ethiopia's development trajectory, with communities across the country contributing to economic growth, cultural life and national progress through expanding opportunities in tourism, agriculture, industry and services.

The Deputy Head of Mission also stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and the United Kingdom, describing cultural exchange as an essential pillar of mutual understanding that complements formal diplomatic relations. He thanked the organizers, including the Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence and Baroness Verma, for creating a platform that celebrates dialogue and cultural connection.
