Today we spotlight Suncha Adjodha better known as Sunny Soulucian, an Anse La Raye native whose journey embodies resilience, purpose, and the power of embracing your difference.

From a small fishing village to senior project manager, consultant, and mindset coach, Sunny has turned her lived experiences with ADHD and dyslexia into a mission: helping others unlock their full potential.

Today we’re featuring Nahla Rose, our youngest author from the Saint Lucian Authors Literary Showcase.

At just eight years old, she turned a real‑life global emergency during 2020 into a STEM‑powered mission of creativity and compassion.

Her rhyming children’s book Nahla and the 3D Machine shows young readers that their ideas matter, their curiosity matters, and their stories matter across generations.

A beautiful reminder that innovation begins with a question, a big heart, and the courage to try.

Today we feature Erica Alexander.

Erica is a Saint Lucian‑born author who published her first children’s book, My Hair, My Crown, on World Book Day, 6th March 2025. Originally from the community of Soufrière, Erica migrated to the UK at age 16.

She has built a meaningful career in Education and now works within Children’s and Families Services, continuing her commitment to supporting young people and celebrating identity.

Her work uplifts, empowers, and reminds our children that their heritage is something to wear proudly — like a crown.

Here’s another author feature: Miguel Alexander, Black Gold Publishing.

An educator since 2016, Miguel specialises in supporting young people in their transition back into mainstream education. His work is driven by a deep personal passion for helping children realise their full potential. Through his empathetic and dynamic approach, he has successfully rehabilitated and supported several boys in returning to mainstream education.

Miguel is also the visionary co-owner of Black Gold Publishing, an independent publishing company that creates educational resources aimed at preserving, promoting, and celebrating Caribbean culture for the next generation.

He aspires to collaborate with the Government of Saint Lucia to develop more educational media and learning resources that engage and inspire young people from the pre-school level onwards.

Here’s another featured author from the Literary Showcase — Britny Virginia .

A creative producer, writer, and facilitator, Britny uses her lived experience as a woman born with Cerebral Palsy to inspire confidence and empowerment through the arts. Her work explores themes of disability, culture, faith, and identity, telling bold and fearless stories.

She wrote, produced, and starred in the short film Dancing Shoes, the story of a disabled woman learning to embrace herself and her differences while finding love with a deaf DJ along the way. The film was selected for the London Independent Film Festival and Serbest Film Festival, with private screenings including at The Phoenix Leicester.

Britney also wrote, produced, and starred in her first full-length play, Up In The Mango Trees, which tells the story of the first disabled woman to run for Saint Lucia’s Carnival Queen. The production was selected for the Bloomsbury Festival, sponsored by Camden Black History Season, and supported through both a Develop Your Creative Practice ACE Grant (2023) and a National Lottery Grant (2025). The play was also shortlisted for the Women’s Playwriting Prize 2026.

As we continue our feature highlighting published authors who participated in the Literary Showcase, today’s reading is presented by Bernadette Albert, Saint Lucian author, cultural intelligence specialist, and strategic inclusion practitioner whose work spans academia, policy, policing, third-sector organisations, and international consultancy.

She is the author and co-author of several books and academic publications exploring cultural risk, equity, inclusion, and social transformation, including Cultural Risk Assessment in Events, Whiteness as Credential, Risk and Safety Challenges for Religious Tourism and Events, and Event Management Principles, Planning and Practice, a core international text used by universities and event professionals worldwide.

Her writing is rooted in applied practice and focuses on systemic change, cultural power, and institutional accountability.

During the Literary Showcase, Bernadette shared an extract from her forthcoming novel, UNBROKEN.

Saint Lucia celebrates Reading Month annually in the month of May. This period is used to encourage the joy of reading at home, at work, and in our schools.

To share in this celebration, the Saint Lucia High Commission will be posting short clips from Saint Lucian published authors who participated in our Published Author’s Showcase held in January 2026.

We begin with a reading from Edward Flood, co‑author of Sometimes It’s Funny: Adventures in Parenthood by Edward and Josi Flood.

We are delighted to highlight the voices of Saint Lucian authors across the UK Diaspora and to share in the joy of their stories.
