I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the UKMSW FORUM for organising such a meaningful and well-coordinated event to celebrate World Social Work Day 2026.

It was truly inspiring to listen to diverse perspectives and powerful stories from fellow social workers, academicians, and sector leaders. The event reflected the strength of our profession in co-building hope and harmony through collaboration, shared learning, and collective advocacy.

I feel deeply honoured and humbled to have shared the platform with such distinguished speakers, and to represent Nepali social workers in the UK, as well as the work of The Gurkha Centre.

Events like this reinforce the importance of unity, cultural understanding, and our ongoing commitment to social justice.

World Social Work Day 2026 | Campaign Launch

On this auspicious day of World Social Work Day, we are proud to launch our new campaign:

Gurkha Justice: Immigration and Welfare

Through our work at The Gurkha Centre, we continue to witness the ongoing challenges faced by Gurkha veterans, their wives, widows, and families—particularly the impact of immigration policies that lead to family separation, financial hardship, and emotional distress.

This campaign is a call for fairness, dignity, and justice.

We aim to:
Highlight the real challenges faced by Gurkha families
Collect evidence to strengthen our advocacy
Engage with policymakers for meaningful change
Support the welfare and wellbeing of our community

Today, we stand together not only to recognise the value of social work, but to take action.

We invite veterans, families, professionals, researchers, and supporters to join us in this movement and help ensure justice for Gurkha families—once and for all.

Honoured to speak at the UKMSW FORUM on World Social Work Day 2025!

This year’s theme, "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing," reminds us of the vital role social work plays in bridging generations and fostering a more inclusive society.

At The Gurkha Centre, I am privileged to support international social workers through supervisory placements. Their resilience and dedication inspire me every day. However, many international social workers face exploitation and unfair treatment, often unable to speak out due to their circumstances. This must change.

As social workers, we are advocates for justice, fairness, and human dignity. Beyond supporting individuals, we must drive systemic change—raising awareness, challenging injustices, and ensuring every social worker can work with dignity and security.

There is still much to do, but together, we are stronger. Let’s stand in solidarity and push forward for a fairer, more just profession.
