Good news for heating oil customers.

We’ve secured compensation for hundreds of consumers whose heating oil orders were cancelled following price spikes earlier this year.

If you paid more for replacement heating oil, then you’ll be paid back the difference. If you didn’t buy replacement oil, then your original order will be honoured at the agreed price. You don’t need to do anything – you will be contacted if you’re eligible.

Does your business show the total price upfront?

Whether it's through your website or an ad, for example – the first price your customers see should be the price they actually pay.

No unavoidable hidden fees. No nasty surprises.

That's the first step of clear pricing. Take the 3 Step Pricing Check to see how your business measures up 👇

The first price you see, should be the price you pay.

We’ve launched 3 consumer protection investigations into Trainline, Virgin Atlantic and RED Driving School.

We’re concerned that customers were not shown the total price upfront when buying train and coach tickets, holidays or driving lessons.

If we find that the law has been broken, customers could get compensation and the businesses could be fined.

It’s important that people aren’t surprised by extra fees when booking train and coach tickets, holidays or driving lessons.

That’s why we’ve launched 3 new consumer protection investigations into:

- Trainline
- Virgin Atlantic
- RED Driving School

over concerns customers weren’t shown the total price upfront.

If we find that the law has been broken, customers could get compensation and the businesses could be fined.

Does your small business deal with consumers?

Your contract terms must be clear and fair. Avoid charging excessive fees for leaving a contract early, or using hidden terms to change the price at will.

Unfair terms:

➡️ are not legally binding
➡️ could drive your customers away
➡️ put you at risk of a hefty fine for breaking the law

We’ve updated our guidance to help you get this right.
