🏺🎬 THE UK CYPRUS FILM FESTIVAL ARRIVES IN SWANSEA

After a weekend of activities in Bristol, we cross into Wales for the Swansea edition of the UK Cyprus Film Festival.

📍 Monday, 16 November | 7:00pm

Our featured film is SKAMMATA, directed by Danae Stylianou and produced for the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus.

This remarkable 87-minute documentary brings archaeology and living memory together.

Produced to commemorate 50 years since the 1974 coup and subsequent Turkish invasion of Cyprus, SKAMMATA brings together foreign and Cypriot archaeologists and retired members of the Department of Antiquities as they recall their experiences and reflect on the consequences of war for the archaeology and cultural heritage of Cyprus.

Archival footage of excavations is interwoven with personal testimony, taking us into the archaeological trenches but also into the memories of those whose lives and work were transformed by 1974.

We are delighted to be bringing this film to Swansea, particularly in collaboration with Dr Ersin Hussein of Swansea University, whose research explores the history and material culture of ancient Cyprus, Cypriot identity and cultural heritage.

It is exactly the kind of encounter we want the UK Cyprus Film Festival to create: bringing contemporary Cypriot filmmaking into conversation with archaeology, scholarship, memory and the communities we meet as the Festival travels across the UK.

🎥 We open our autumn cultural season with Find Me Falling.

On Sunday, 20 September 2026, Cyprus House welcomes Cypriot filmmaker Stelana Kliris and actress Agni Scott for a special screening and live Q&A celebrating contemporary Cypriot cinema and the women shaping it.

The London event follows two Festival screenings of Stelana’s debut feature Committed:

🇨🇾💙 A weekend with the Cypriot community of Leicester!

One of the things we love most about the UK Cyprus Film Festival is the opportunity to take Cypriot culture directly into communities across Britain.

Our Leicester Edition, on 26 & 27 September, will be exactly that.

On Saturday, we meet the students of the Leicester Greek School for two creative theatre workshops inspired by the life and work of George Pol. Georghiou 🎨🎭

On Sunday, the generations come together as we invite parents, grandparents, friends and members of the wider community to a screening of SKAMMATA (Excavations) 🎬

Directed by Danae Stylianou and produced by the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, the documentary takes us into the world of Cypriot archaeology and our continuing relationship with the island's past.

This is what our journey across the UK is about. Creating spaces where our children can discover, our communities can gather and Cyprus can be experienced through its artists, stories and cultural heritage.

We are very much looking forward to our first Leicester weekend! 🇨🇾✨

One of the things we love most about taking the UK Cyprus Film Festival beyond London is the opportunity to meet our communities where they are — in their schools, their community centres and the spaces where generations of Cypriots continue to come together.
