🤝 The Anglo-Argentine Society is delighted to announce that the Córdoba Athletic Club Museum & Historic Preservation Project been selected as one of our two chosen charities in Argentina for 2026-2028.

🏃‍♂️ As Córdoba Athletic Club approaches its 150th birthday, the project seeks to preserve and showcase the history of one of Argentina’s oldest sporting institutions.

🚃 Founded in the 19th century by members of Córdoba’s British railway community, the Club has been a centre of sporting, social and community life for generations.

🩵 We are proud that the generosity of our members and supporters will make this important project possible for safeguarding Anglo-Argentine heritage and history.

We remembered José de San Martin in front of his statue in Belgrave Square with the Argentine Ambassador HE Mariana Plaza, and the board of the British San Martin Institute, chair Marcelo Scenna, Secretary General Juan Davila y Verdin, treasurer Tony Robinson, who laid a wreath on behalf of the BSMI and is also treasurer of the AAS.
Present were the ambassadors of Chile and Peru, Diego Paulsen and Ignacio Higueras Hare respectively.
Representayives of the Anglo Chilean Society , military attaches from South American countries, and Baroness Gloria Hooper patron of the BSMI and honorary vicepresident of the AAS.

At the vin d’honneur, we had the opportunity to appreciate an original French document announcing the death of General San Martín stating details of his titles in different countries and his survival family, property of Juan Davila y Verdin.
We all sang the Marcha de San Lorenzo, bringing to many of us educated in Argentina, countless memories of our school days.

210 years ago deputies from all over the United Provinces, gathered in San Miguel de Tucumán, signed the Declaration of Independence and made Argentina a country free of other nations’ rule.

Today we celebrate and commemorate a great day in history for all Argentinians.
