Bioblitzing: Nunhead Cemetery, One Tree Hill and Camberwell Old Cemetery edition.

You don’t have to know your lichen from your fungi to be a citizen scientist: you just need your phone and some curiosity! Cllr Threadgold and Bonnie the dog joined Tom from the on this woodland bioblitz, where you use your phone to record plant and animal species found in the woodland. This helps to create a snapshot of what’s happening in the woodland, which can provide valuable information and show how it’s changing over time.

This event was led by the London Wildlife Trust, and supported by the council, as part of a woodland recovery scheme, which is improving the biodiversity value of woodlands across Southwark through events and practical activities.

One week to go! Bermondsey Street Festival returns this September 🥳

Back for its 20th year, this family-friendly festival brings you music, art and crafts, children's entertainment, a dog show and a range of local food and drinks - and admission is free.

Music ranges across genres to suit every taste, and there's plenty to keep little ones busy with family activities and more.

Rye Lane has reopened

Rye Lane, Peckham - has reopened following the completion of emergency safety works at the old cinema building.

Councillor James McAsh, Leader of Southwark Council, said: "I am pleased to report that Rye Lane, in Peckham, has reopened following the completion of the emergency safety works on the old cinema building.

“I would like to thank residents, businesses, shoppers, visitors and everyone who has been affected for their patience and understanding while these essential works were carried out."

While the road has reopened for buses, other authorised traffic and pedestrians, bus users should continue to check the TfL website for the latest diversion and service updates.

Peckham is one of London's most vibrant and diverse high streets. Now is a great time to visit, shop local and support the fantastic businesses that make Rye Lane such a special destination.

We're pleased to share that the whole length of Rye Lane is now open for pedestrians.

All businesses and shops that were closed are also open from today.

We'd like to thank residents, businesses and visitors for your patience and understanding while the works have taken place.

Our partners have been delivering free cycling lessons all summer in Burgess Park, and they've been so popular there are more coming up over the next few weekends, on both Saturdays and Sundays. All ages and abilities welcome.

We’re facing a £102 million funding gap, and face some of the toughest choices the council has ever had to make. Rising costs, growing demand for vital services, and unfair government funding have put us in this difficult position.

We came together with other councils, who are also facing huge financial pressures, at Hackney’s Anti-Austerity summit, so that we can build a cross-party campaign to demand truly fair funding from the government.

But we also want to hear from you. Your voice will help shape what happens next. We’ll be sharing how council funding works, where it’s spent, and asking what matters most to you.

Earlier this week we announced we're giving thousands of free school uniforms to children in Southwark.
