Stealing phones in London is getting far harder.

Record City Hall funding is helping the Met crackdown on the £50m-a-year trade in stolen phones and tackle all involved – from the street robbers, to the middlemen who unlock devices and sell them on.

We will not let up in our pursuit of these criminals and we'll continue working with the mobile phone industry to make stolen phones harder to use, sell and profit from.

Phone thieves have nowhere to hide.

Following record investment in the Met from City Hall, thefts and robberies are now at a four-year low, with 16,000 fewer mobile phone thefts and robberies over the past year.

New drones and Sur-Ron bikes are helping the Met go after criminals, and we’re determined to build on this progress to keep Londoners safe.

Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said the force has "broken the model" of gangs exporting thousands of snatched phones abroad.

That's why I’m very proud to accept the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour in recognition of our work in building a record number of affordable homes over the last 10 years.

It only renews my determination for the work still ahead: to build a city where everyone has an affordable, safe and secure place to call home.

90 years ago today, Oswald Mosley and his Blackshirts attempted to march through and intimidate a predominantly Jewish area of the East End.

Men, women and children, alongside local residents, trade unionists and anti-fascist protesters, came together to defend the community in what became known as the Battle of Cable Street.

They taught us an important lesson: communities can resist fascism by joining together.

Hate and antisemitism had no place in London then, and it has no place here now.
