The CPA Regional Conference brought together Speakers, Presiding Officers, Members of Parliament, Clerks and delegates from across the CAA Region. The programme addressed a range of pressing issues facing the wider Region, including the use of digital technology in parliamentary work, online harassment of women in public life, Artificial Intelligence, youth engagement and the independence of Parliament.

CPA Deputy Secretary-General meets with Nigeria National Assembly interparliamentary team 🇳🇬

A parliamentary delegation of officials from the National Assembly of Nigeria met with the Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Jarvis Matiya as part of a visit to the UK Parliament in Westminster.

The Nigerian delegation heard about the CPA’s work in the CPA Africa Region and the online courses available as part of the CPA Parliamentary Academy for MPs and parliamentary staff. They also discussed the work of the CPA networks for Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), CPA Small Branches and the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD).

The Nigerian delegation comprised of Dr Fortune Amezhinim Ihua-Maduenyi, Mrs Awonaya Olufunso Olubusola, Dr Goyei Guy Fineman, Mr Muhammad Gali Tijjani and Mrs Joy Precious Brown from the Directorate of Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Protocol at the National Assembly of Nigeria.

This week, the Houses of Parliament, Jamaica is hosting the 48th CPA Caribbean, Americas and the Atlantic (CAA) Regional Conference.

Over 70 persons are in attendance, including Parliamentary Speakers, Presidents, Clerks and officials as well as Jamaican Prime Minister, Hon. Andrew Holness and CPA Secretary-General Stephen Twigg.
