How do you build a positive life when you feel trapped by your environment?

That’s the reality for many young people from vulnerable backgrounds across the country.

Minister for Sentencing and Youth Justice, Jake Richards MP, recently visited Positive Steps in Oldham to meet a young person who engaged with the Turnaround Programme.

Turnaround steps in early - working with 10 to 17-year-olds who need support before things escalate into the justice system.

As this young person explains, the support didn’t just keep him out of trouble; it changed how he saw his future.

We’re investing millions in early intervention programmes like this to prevent crime, protect communities, and give young people the chance to thrive.

Breaking the cycle of repeat offending starts with tackling what drives it.

We're investing £9 million in 6 new Intensive Supervision Courts across England and Wales.

What makes ISCs different?

The World Cup begins tonight, and by the end of England's first game, we will be one man down.

75% of people who die by su***de in the UK are men. That's one every 90 minutes.

Jake Richards MP joined Andys Man Club founder Luke Ambler for an outdoor conversation using the charity's peer-to-peer Talking Ball format, designed to model the kind of open, accessible dialogue that saves lives.

How Are We Tackling the Drone Threat in UK Prisons?

Drones are smuggling drugs, weapons and phones into prisons, putting staff, prisoners and the public at risk.

In response, we’re investing £35 million this year in stronger security, including upgraded cell windows at the highest-risk sites to stop contraband getting in.

🎥 Watch to hear from the Head of the Counter-Drone Taskforce at HMPPS and see how we’re taking action.

AI is transforming how our justice system works. ⚖️

We’ve rolled out our Justice Transcribe tool to probation offices nationwide. This will save vital time each year, meaning more time will be spent supervising offenders and helping keep your local streets safe.

Following its success, we’re trying out similar tools for judges, helping them to spend less time on paperwork and more time delivering justice.

Today, we’re going even further by launching our plan to develop and test AI for the Crown Court. The aim is to reduce the backlog of cases and deliver faster outcomes for victims.

Watch what happened when Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy sat down with Jessikah Inaba, Britain's first blind Black female barrister.

Together, they discuss the new Judicial and Legal Diversity Board and what it means for the next generation of judges from underrepresented backgrounds.

We joined Shaun Tookey, The Grave Cleaner at Lodge Hill Cemetery to see the positive impact Community Payback teams are making in Birmingham.

Community Payback is when a court orders offenders to complete demanding unpaid work, helping to positively transform local spaces and making offenders repay their debt to society.

It can work to cut crime and reduce the chances of reoffending more effectively than short prison sentences, and is part of our plan for safer streets through punishment that works to cut crime.
