Welcome to the page of the Malawi High Commission in the United Kingdom

The High Commission is accreditated not only to The United Kingdom but also to Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. It also covers international organisations based in the United Kingdom and the other countries of accreditation. The role of the mission is, therefore, to stren

gthen Malawi's bilateral and multilateral relations with the countries and international organisations which it covers. In this respect, it promotes trade, investment, tourism, development assistance and humanitarian support. It also provides consular services to Malawians and to foreign nationals. One function which has become increasingly important is engagement with the diaspora and charities. Some of the mission's work is supported by Malawi's Honorary Consuls, especially in the countries to which it is accreditated on a non-residential basis. Against this background, you will find, on this website, a wide range of information on Malawi, its trade and investment prospects, its tourism and travel, visa and other consular services and its engagement with the Malawi diaspora and charities. There is also information regarding relations between Malawi and The United Kingdom, the other countries of accreditation and the international organisations which the mission covers. The site further provides links to websites of some public and private organisations in Malawi. All Malawian citizens and permanent residents in The United Kingdom and other countries of accreditation are encouraged to register with the High Commission. This can be done by completing the Registration Form available on this website, either on-line or physically.

Yesterday, our High Commissioner, H.E. Thomas Bisika, delivered the opening statement at the Financing Education for a Shared Purpose breakfast at UK Parliament — hosted ahead of the Education World Forum by the Council for Education in the Commonwealth, IPNEd, RESULTS UK, and Save the Children.

H.E. Bisika reaffirmed Malawi's commitment to foundational learning and highlighted Malawi's role as host of FLEX 2026 — the Africa Foundational Learning Exchange — taking place in Lilongwe from 15–17 July 2026. Now in its third edition, FLEX is Africa's leading platform for advancing education policy and practice, building on the foundations of Sierra Leone (2023) and Rwanda (2024).

His message: the tools and evidence exist. What Africa needs now is coherent, sustained implementation — and financing that follows results. We look forward to welcoming partners and fellow African nations to Lilongwe. Together, we can ensure every child has the foundational skills to thrive.

Anthu Pamodzi – People Together

Last week in Edinburgh, the enduring friendship between Malawi and Scotland was celebrated through the Anthu Pamodzi photographic exhibition, marking 20 years of the Scotland Malawi Partnership.

The exhibition showcases the strength of Malawi–Scotland collaboration across health, education, clean water, energy and sustainable livelihoods, reflecting partnerships built on mutual respect and shared purpose. The occasion was further honoured by the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Honorary Patron of the Partnership.

Anthu Pamodzi, meaning People Together in Chichewa, tells the story of communities working side by side and highlights the positive impact of people-to-people cooperation between Malawi and Scotland.

As the exhibition continues to tour Scotland, it carries with it Malawi’s story of partnership, resilience and shared progress. Read more: https://tinyurl.com/mrx37bxb

Why this matters:

Young people are vital to shaping climate action — yet many face the same barriers: limited access to funding, insufficient green skills, minimal voice in decision-making.

This session explores how you can tap into public & private climate finance, learn to design impactful projects (from problem-analysis to “theory of change”), and link green finance to youth jobs and entrepreneurship.

Featuring speakers & advisers from across the Commonwealth — who bring lived experience of youth-led green growth in sectors like renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem restoration, e-mobility.

What you’ll walk away with:

A better understanding of how global climate finance works (and how young people can access it)

Tools to craft your own climate project concept

Inspiration + case-studies of youth-led change you can replicate

Ideal for:

Youth from Malawi and other Commonwealth member states

Young climate leaders from SIDS (Small Island Developing States) / LDCs (Least Developed Countries)
