The Second Army Area reports that on 6 January 2026 at approximately 07:25 hrs this morning

the Suranaree Task Force received a report of an explosion incident in the Chong Bok area,
near Hill 469, Dom Pradit Subdistrict, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
As a result of the incident, one soldier was injured. The injured soldier is Sergeant First Class
Prachaya Philachai, Platoon Leader of the 1st Rifte Platoon, Infantry Company 6021 (RDF).
He sustained shrapnel injuries to his right arm.
Medical personnel assessed his condition as Green category (minor injuries) and not
life-threatening. Following the incident, units in the area immediately conducted initial first aid
in accordance with field medical procedures and promptly evacuated the injured soldier from
the operational area.
The injured soldier was initially transported to K*t Chiang Mun Subdistrict Health
Promoting Hospital and was subsequently referred for further treatment at Nam Yuen Hospital.
He is currently in stable condition and remains under close medical supervision.

At present, the cause of the incident is under investigation by the relevant authorities.
The Second Army Area expresses its concern for the injured soldier and has instructed all units to exercise heightened viellance and strictly adhere to operational safety measures,
ensuring the highest level of safety for military personnel and civillans in the area. Updates will be provided to commanders and the public as appropriate. The public is assured that the Second Army Area continues to perform its duties with responsibility, prudence, and an unwavering commitment to safety at all times.

Royal Thai Army Clarifies Civilian Property Control After Clashes, Stresses Safety, Prevents Military Use, and Confirms Demolition of Encroaching Structures Under Thai Law
In response to the dissemination of news on social media, and according to the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), which claimed that during the recent armed conflict the Thai side unlawfully used military force to occupy civilian homes and stole property belonging to Cambodian people:
Major General Winthai Suvaree, Army spokesperson, clarified that such information could cause society to misunderstand the Thai side. He emphasized that Thai military operations were directed primarily at military targets and threats. In particular, all areas under Thai control were within Thai sovereign territory, which had previously been illegally encroached upon and inhabited by Cambodians without authorization.
The Thai side’s operations were carried out with the principle of ensuring safety in the area. It was necessary to act so that buildings, houses, structures, and objects would not be reused for military purposes or in ways that could affect national security.
Regarding the houses and structures, the Thai side had to demolish them because they were illegally constructed, encroached upon Thai territory, and stood on land not owned by the builders nor authorized by the rightful landowners. These structures had long disrupted the landscape of the area, and demolition was also intended to prevent them from being used as gathering places for unlawful activities.
As for the belongings and household items found in the area or inside the illegal structures, officials were required to collect, secure, and store them temporarily. It was affirmed that none of these items would be used for personal benefit. Consideration would later be given to appropriate measures regarding these items.
It was further confirmed that all Thai military operations were conducted within the framework of international humanitarian law, with the primary aim of maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of the people.

Royal Thai Army Clarifies Facts: Confirms Controlled Area Within Thai Sovereignty, Emphasizes It Is Border Reorganization, Not Cambodian Invasion

Regarding reports from some foreign media outlets claiming that Thailand used force to “seize territory” from Cambodia and prevented Cambodian citizens from “returning to their homes,” such presentations are not consistent with the facts.

Today (January 2, 2026), Major General Winthai Suvaree, Army spokesperson, clarified that the media in question may have misunderstood the situation. The areas currently under Thai control were originally places where Cambodian forces had deployed troops and where Cambodian civilians had settled, encroaching upon Thai sovereignty. Therefore, it is in fact Cambodia that had occupied parts of Thai territory.

For over 40 years, Cambodian civilians have encroached into Thai sovereign territory, establishing communities and residences in violation of both Thai law and international law, with state support. Thailand has repeatedly lodged protests under the framework of the MOU, along with administrative legal mechanisms, but has never received corrective action or cooperation from Cambodia. On the contrary, further encroachments have continued.

Moreover, prior to the clashes, Cambodian forces engaged in provocations and displayed threatening military postures in several areas along the border, including acts of military intimidation against Thailand. This compelled Thailand to exercise its right of self-defense, using proportionate force under international law. Thailand also took this opportunity to restore order and reestablish control over border areas that had been encroached upon by Cambodia, ensuring proper regulation and sovereignty.

Currently, Thai control and supervision of the area remains within Thailand’s territory, along operational boundary lines. It is not an invasion or occupation of Cambodian land, as some media outlets have mistakenly reported.
