⚠️ Nearly 200 fake squishy toys have been seized by our Trading Standards officers in Victoria.

Officers visited a US-style candy store after a mother reported that her eight-year-old daughter had complained of a foul chemical smell coming from a toy branded a “NeeDoh nice cube”. Officers believed the toy was fake because the packaging was incorrectly labelled.

Trading Standards officers say Westminster is now awash with fakes. These toys frequently give off an unpleasant chemical smell and may contain dangerous chemicals that can cause injury or illnesses.

A TikTok craze has also led to children placing squishy toys in microwaves to make the gel more “squishable”. In some cases, toys have exploded and children have suffered burns.

When buying toys, please check that the packaging displays the CE mark or UKCA mark, along with manufacturer and UK importer details. If you’re in doubt about a toy’s safety or authenticity, contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.
