Another interesting tidbit from the Highgrove Chef Darren McGrady:

Typically, the Royals interacted with their chef at various times during the day, so it was unusual for them to need him during a meal.

Diana had three rules that had to be followed before she would agree to dance with a man.

1. He has to be married,
2. The wife has to be in the room
3. He has to be at least 6 feet tall

The same night Diana and Travolta swayed on the dance floor, Tom Selleck also got a chance to dance with the royal.

According to his memoir, "You Never Know", the Magnum, P.I. star was urgently asked by one of the royal aides to cut in between Travolta and Diana after they danced for more than one song. There was concern about romance rumors if Diana and John danced together for too long.

“I’M NOT CUTTING IN ON JOHN TRAVOLTA!” he replied, noting that he spoke with “probably too loud a voice.”

Selleck ultimately followed through and asked Diana to dance. According to the actor, the royal seemed “shy” but still engaged in friendly small talk.

“I gotta say she seemed to be having the time of her life,” he penned. “I was relieved she talked most of the time. Let’s just say it was not my finest hour as a conversationalist.”

Monday, June 23, 1997- The Four Seasons, East Fifty-second Street, between Lexington and Park. At the invitation of Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, Biographer Tina Brown sits down to lunch with the Princess of Wales.

In a review of the book 'Dianaworld' for The New Statesman, Tina Brown writes that "in her presence, it was impossible not to be seduced. No photographs do justice to the combination of that blonde radiance and conferred charisma. In her stockinged feet Diana was five foot 11 inches, and when she crossed the Four Seasons restaurant to our table wearing three-inch Manolo heels and a peppermint green Saint Laurent suit, with a short skirt that gave full rein to her limitless legs, she electrified a dining room used to the appearance of high-wattage celebrities.

“We are about to order coffee, and I ask the Princess if she regrets the loss of her chance to be Queen. I assume she will avoid answering, but she surprises me again.”

“Yes, yes,” she says quickly, her eyes lowered. Then she looks up and continues, “We would have been the best team in the world. I could shake hands till the cows come home. And Charles could make serious speeches.

May 1994 - Diana once helped save a drowning man.

The princess was on her way home from a jog in London’s Regents Park on Sunday when tourists flagged her car, pointed to a bridge over the narrow lake and said someone had fallen in.

Diana, still in running shoes and shorts, reportedly told her chauffeur to call police on the car phone, then dashed to the bridge where she was joined by Kari Kotila, 29, a Finnish student living in London.

Kotila, followed by Diana, climbed over the parapet of the bridge onto the bank of the lake. The Finn then swam to the 42-year-old Irish vagrant, by then unconscious, and towed him to the bank.
Kotila provided mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while Diana stayed close by, offering support, until the police arrived.

The photograph is of Diana presenting a Royal Humane Society award to Kari Kotila and Constable Derek Caldwell for their heroism that day.
