Minerva has hosted students with Hosts International for many years, and her words capture something at the very heart of international education: trust, reassurance, cultural exchange and the chance to see young people grow through their experience abroad.

At the heart of international education is something wonderfully simple: people connecting with people.

A student may come to the UK or Ireland to improve their English, but what they take home is often much bigger than that. It is the conversations over breakfast, the shared meals, the everyday routines, the cultural differences, the laughter and the confidence that grows from living somewhere new.

Homestay has always been part of that journey. It brings language learning into real life and gives students the chance to experience British culture from the inside, not simply observe it from a classroom or residence.

Technology will continue to change how we learn, but genuine human connection remains irreplaceable.

When disruption hits our industry, students still need somewhere safe to stay, someone to turn to, and the reassurance that they are not being left behind.

Recent events have been a reminder that international education is about far more than classrooms. Accommodation, welfare, communication and trusted local support are all essential parts of the student experience, particularly when circumstances change unexpectedly.
