That’s the number of candles we need to celebrate the 10,000 settings that have signed up to the Nature Park programme!

More than 10,000 schools, colleges and nurseries are taking action for nature on their learning sites. From weaving nature across subjects to exploring spaces, this is a movement that's making a genuine difference to both people and the planet.

Have you seen these two birds in our Treasures gallery?

The species that you can see here shared a tragic fate: both the great auk and dodo were driven to extinction by humans.

Dodos were large flightless birds that lived in the forests of Mauritius. At the end of the 17th century, they went extinct after being hunted by the dogs and cats brought to the island by sailors.

Great auks lived on remote islands around the world, including Canada and Denmark. They were sadly driven to extinction by human exploitation in the mid-1840s. 😢

Centuries on, these birds inspire us to care for the species on our planet. 💚

We're so excited to announce our new exhibition, Nature and Us! 🌱

This space was once a mammals gallery and a working herbarium, and now it's becoming a free temporary exhibition.

Explore our ever-changing relationship with nature through over 50 incredible specimens, from a miniature model of a Crystal Palace dinosaur to a bryozoan-encrusted Star Wars toy.

Nature and Us opens 16 September, and we can't wait for you to discover it!

In the 19th century, father-son duo Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka created over 10,000 glass models of jellyfish, octopus and squid. 😍🦑

These objects are beautiful, but not only that - when more than 180 glass models entered the Museum’s collections, the staff were particularly impressed by their scientific accuracy!
