They should still be with us.

Like so many, we here at Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP and LEAP UK) have been touched personally by overdose. When we commemorate this day, we truly remember and stand in solidarity.

Today is , but we should make it our mission to be reminded every day what we are standing for. We wish for every chair to be filled at the dinner table. We would like to see every child with their parent, and every loved one return home. We also need to remember those of us who have faced homelessness and have been pushed to the side of our communities. We see you, we’re with you.

Let’s make today count, and let’s not cease until we fix the broken systems and polices which lead to overdose.

The Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Association is organising a Law Enforcement, Drug Policy and Harm Reduction Workshop, running 4 to 5 September 2026 in Leeds, UK, as a satellite event of LEPH2026.

This workshop will bring together police, policymakers and public health leaders from around the world to discuss: how do we move from a criminal justice response to drug use toward an approach grounded in public health, that reduces harm and opens real routes to health, welfare, support and recovery?

“In addition to medication, patients receive medical follow-up and help with mental health problems, drug use and social challenges such as housing, finances, and social networks.
The aim is to improve patients' health, create more stability in their everyday lives, and reduce the number of fatal overdoses.”

The close monitoring provided to patients is just as important as the medication itself. This is shown by a new evaluation of heroin-assisted treatment. Presented by University of Oslo.
