AT the annual JP Morgan Emerging and Frontier Markets Opportunities Conference in London this morning where Secretary to the Treasury Mr Felix Nkulukusa and Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor Dr Francis Chipimo made a presentation presentation on, "Zambia: Macroeconomic Outlook Post Elections", with an optimistic outlook albeit the anticipated climate risks and the conflict in the middle east.
Mr Nkulukusa and Dr Chipimo and delegation also held a couple of side meetings with Zambia's partners, assuring them of the government's commitment to growth targets as espoused in President Hakainde Hichilema flagship "Grow Zambia Agenda" for his second term in office. The Grow Zambia Agenda sets ambitious production and development targets intended to support economic diversification, enhance productive capacity, strengthen value chains, and create greater opportunities for investment and employment.
The targets include achieving:
* 10 million tonnes of maize production;
* 10, 000 megawatts of electricity-generation capacity;
* 5 million tourist arrivals;
* 3 million tonnes of copper;
* 3 million tonnes of soya;
* 1 million tonnes of wheat;
* 1 million tonnes of sugar; and
* US $1 billion in beef export revenues.
