Today Prime Minister Andy Burnham faced questions from MPs in .

Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) is a 30-minute session that allows MPs to ask questions directly to the Prime Minister. This helps hold the government to account.

PMQs usually starts with the Prime Minister answering a routine question on his official engagements that day, which is then followed by questions from the Leader of the Opposition and other MPs on any topic they choose.

The House of Commons Procedure Committee has recently published a report examining how well the Written Parliamentary Questions system is working in the Commons.

Written Parliamentary Questions enable MPs to seek information, investigate issues and hold ministers to account through detailed written answers, with every question and response published online as part of the public record.
