45 SAF officers participating in the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College’s programme visited the Singapore High Commission as part of their Overseas Study Visit to the UK. 🇸🇬🇬🇧

The visit forms part of the College’s efforts to broaden participants’ perspectives beyond Singapore.

During the session, the officers posed wide-ranging questions to HC Ng Teck Hean on developments in the UK and Europe, broader global trends and how these could affect Singapore and the UK, as well as some of the challenges facing Singapore.

Wishing everyone a fruitful rest of their visit

✨🇸🇬💫🇬🇧✨

Friends and partners from across the UK joined us in London on 10 September to celebrate Singapore’s 61st National Day, with the Right Honourable Minister Lucy Rigby KC MP as our Guest-of-Honour.

The afternoon was a chance to reflect on a partnership that has continually evolved with the times. From defence and trade to finance, technology and sustainability, Singapore and the UK are working ever more closely together — underpinned by the many people and friendships connecting our two countries.

There is much to look forward to. In 2027, Singapore will chair ASEAN while the UK holds the G20 Presidency, creating new opportunities to work together at a time when trusted partnerships matter more than ever.

As HC Ng Teck Hean shared, Majulah Singapura, our National Anthem, carries a simple but enduring message: to move forward together as one people. Meaning “Onward Singapore”, it captures the spirit that has guided us for 61 years — and with which we continue to move forward alongside our friends and partners around the world.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for SG61! 🇸🇬

Here’s a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how we plan and prepare for this annual event. From meetings with our venue partner and planning the menu, to arranging the flags and checking the videos and speeches, it takes months of preparation and teamwork to bring everything together.

Stay tuned for highlights from our National Day Reception! 🎉

High Commissioner Ng Teck Hean was pleased to meet the Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, Dame Andrea Jenkyns, and the Chief Executive of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority, Lee Sirdifiekd, this morning, together with Enterprise Singapore Regional Director Yang Mingjin.

They had a productive exchange on opportunities to deepen links between Singapore and Greater Lincolnshire, including in agri-tech and automation, clean energy and offshore wind, advanced manufacturing, and defence and dual-use technologies.

We look forward to exploring practical opportunities to connect our businesses, innovators and institutions.

At Chatham House this week, DHC Nicola participated in a roundtable with fellow policy makers from various countries, academia, and representatives from industry and the private sector, to share perspectives from Singapore of how we are navigating an evolving AI landscape. Discussions covered AI governance and Singapore’s contributions as a trusted global hub to international cooperation in AI. We also spoke about our efforts at home to harness AI for the public good and strengthen social cohesion in a time of rapid technological change.

A wonderful opportunity to exchange views across government, business and academia on a profoundly crucial topic for us all, and develop an even deeper appreciation that there is much that we can do together.

High Commissioner Ng Teck Hean caught up with former UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, who recently stepped down from his frontbench role to focus on his campaign for the 2028 London mayoral election.

During his time as Foreign Secretary, Mr Cleverly played a leading role in advancing the UK’s Indo-Pacific strategy and deepening its engagement with the region, including through ASEAN and the UK’s accession to the CPTPP.

They discussed the UK’s recent engagement with the Indo-Pacific, the strong and growing Singapore-UK relationship, latest developments in the Middle East, and the evolving domestic political landscape, including its implications for the Conservative Party.

From Chelsea to Brighton & Hove Albion FC women’s teams, Singaporean sports doctor Bethany Koh has worked pitchside for some of England’s top football clubs.

Bethany has balanced her work as an NHS GP with sports medicine roles in the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, helping players to stay healthy and perform in one of football’s most demanding environments.

Bethany shares her journey since arriving in the UK 11 years ago, what her colleagues and footballers are most curious to learn about Singapore, and how she hopes to share her experiences with the sports community back home.

In our ‘A Singaporean in the UK’ series, we highlight Singaporeans pursuing their varied careers in the UK, in an ode to the strength of the people-to-people ties between our two countries. 🇸🇬🇬🇧

In cooperation with the The Commonwealth, we are delighted to have convened a programme for participants from across 20 Commonwealth member nations on Digital Govenance and AI Adoption for Public Service from 3 to 7 August 2026!

Co-organised by the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this timely programme is part of Singapore’s continued efforts to support our fellow Commonwealth nations in leveraging technology to accelerate national development.

During the opening ceremony of the course, participants were welcomed by Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat Tanmaya Lal and DHC Nicola, who reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to support good governance and foster inclusive and sustainable development, and to strengthen cooperation and capacity-building across the Commonwealth family of nations.

We hope that all participants benefitted from the programme and the exchange of ideas on digital infrastructure and AI literacy!
