The Singapore High Commission was honoured to host President Tharman Shanmugaratnam this afternoon. We were joined by colleagues from the Singapore Government agencies represented in the UK. With support from the Singapore Global Network, a group of Singaporean students and professionals, including the management team from Singapore Airlines in London, also joined the session and shared with the President their experiences of living, studying and working in the UK.

It was also a special occasion for our Locally Recruited Staff — including three colleagues (Linda, BiBi and Nimal) whose combined service at the High Commission spans an extraordinary 128 years — who had the opportunity to meet and engage with President Tharman.

And, of course, we rounded off the afternoon with a spread of Singapore favourites, including curry puffs, pandan cake, kueh bingka and kopi-o!

Congratulations to London for being conferred the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2026! London has been awarded the prize for its capacity to reinvent itself, remain dynamic, and deliver transformational change for the metropolis, while demonstrating coordinated governance in its approach to urban development.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is in Singapore this week to receive the award, and met with PM Lawrence Wong. From all of us at the Singapore High Commission in London, congratulations to our city of posting for receiving this well-deserved prize!

Delighted to welcome Minister Grace Fu to the residence during her two-day working visit to London. Her programme includes engagements with UK government counterparts and stakeholders on trade, sustainability, and other areas of mutual interest.

We were also pleased to host a dinner prepared by Megan Tan, founder of Yumm Singa (formerly Homi Kitchen), with the support of our housekeepers, Parmi and Eni. Megan is a Singaporean entrepreneur bringing authentic Singapore flavours to the UK through her range of sauces inspired by local hawker favourites. 🇸🇬🇬🇧

DHC Nicola was a speaker at a roundtable today convened at Wilton Park by the British Foreign Policy Group on strengthening national resilience through a whole of government approach towards national security. The enriching exchange of views included perspectives from the UK, the experiences of our friends in the Nordic countries and Estonia, coupled with Singapore’s values and efforts in building preparedness on this front, particularly in the digital arena. The iconic Wiston House in Steyning, West Sussex, home of Wilton Park, was a perfect backdrop to our discussion on these pertinent issues, enabling us to find common ground in appreciating each other’s perspectives as we all navigate a more fragmented world.

The SHC is pleased to support this evening’s official launch of the UK–Singapore Life Sciences Trade Accelerator at the FCDO, organised by the British Chambers of Commerce and the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore.

HC Ng Teck Hean and Counsellor (Economic) Uma Muniandy attended the event, where UK Trade Envoy to Singapore George Freeman also delivered remarks.

In his remarks, HC Ng said the UK’s strong focus on innovation and future industries has made life sciences an increasingly important growth sector, supported by the country’s vibrant biotech ecosystem and strong research capabilities. The Trade Accelerator comes at a timely moment for UK life sciences companies looking to scale internationally and explore opportunities in Asia.

HC told participating companies from the inaugural cohort that Singapore was pleased to serve as the programme’s first pilot market and highlighted Singapore’s role as a leading business and innovation hub for Southeast Asia, with growing opportunities for collaboration in biomedical sciences, precision medicine, therapeutics and healthcare innovation.

SHC was pleased to attend His Majesty’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 12 May 2026.

Guests enjoyed the quintessentially British tradition of afternoon tea on the Palace lawns amidst the splendour of the Buckingham Palace gardens.

The ladies from the Singapore High Commission - Nicola, Qing Yu and Shalini - added a touch of elegance and Singaporean warmth to the occasion.

A great afternoon catching up over lunch as HC Ng Teck Hean hosted a farewell for Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami. Plenty to reflect on, from close collaboration on the UK’s Indo-Pacific strategy to wider conversations on recent developments in the Middle East.

Glad to be joined by former National Security Adviser Sir Tim Barrow, former FCDO Permanent Secretary Sir Philip Barton, former Chief of the Air Staff Sir Mike Wigston, and UK Ambassador Caroline Wilson, along with the Ambassador of Kuwait and the High Commissioners of Australia, Malaysia and South Africa.

We welcomed the University College London (UCL)’s Diplomatic Society to the Singapore High Commission in London this week.

DHC Nicola and SS Jun Hong engaged the students on our work at the High Commission, the key tenets of Singapore's foreign policy, and our multifaceted relations with the UK.

The students were keen to hear about Singapore’s approach in navigating an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape, and our personal reflections as Foreign Service Officers.

We hope that the students found the session enriching, and wish them the very best in their journeys ahead!
