πŸ›΄ Rental e-scooters are part of daily life around Victoria now, and they end up on our pavements whether we ride them or not.

Local councillor Mohamed Elmi went to a joint e-scooter safety event run by Westminster City Council and Transport for London, with Lime and the other operators supporting it. It offered practical training and advice on riding safely and responsibly across London.

The parts that matter most on streets like ours are the simple ones: a sensible speed, keeping off the pavement, and leaving a scooter parked properly rather than across the footway.

"Ensuring the safety of pedestrians, riders and all road users must remain a priority," Mo said. "Initiatives like this play an important role in promoting responsible behaviour and keeping our streets safe for everyone."

Seeing a scooter or bike blocking a pavement near you? Send Mo the street name and he will get it chased.

🚫 £200. That's the most an unlicensed street collector can be fined, under a law from 1916, and only after the council has gathered evidence and taken them to court.

Pushy collectors have been reported around Victoria station, and Westminster City Council is now asking for the power to fine them on the spot instead.

Been pressured by a collector on Wilton Road or outside the station? Let local councillors Jim, Ed and Mohamed know in the comments.

♻️ Hi, we're Mo and Ed, your local councillors here in Pimlico! Last month we were out with the community mobile recycling team, you may have seen them setting up shop nearby.

This is all part of helping you get rid of bulky waste or anything else you need to offload, and we were chatting to residents about why recycling really does make a difference.

You could grab your food waste bags there too, and here's the interesting bit, the council actually gets paid for the food waste we produce! So the more we recycle, the lower our taxes can be.

Catch us next time it's in the area!

πŸ—³οΈ Final call. Budget Choices closes at 5pm today.

Six areas are listed, among them housing and homelessness, which takes in temporary accommodation and housing support. For each one you give a rating, and say whether more council tax would be justified.

Around Churchill Gardens and off Lupus Street, that heading is not an abstract one.

πŸ“‹ Clean streets on Warwick Way, waste collection, the Tachbrook market. All of it comes out of one budget.

Budget Choices asks residents to rank what should be protected while Westminster's funding falls by close to 50 per cent. Responses close on Wednesday 30 September, so there is not a lot of time left.

The council took it to this month's resilience event at the Paddington station, where fire crews and St John Ambulance covered first aid and what to do when something goes wrong.

Local councillors Jim, Ed and Mohamed are keen for the streets behind Victoria to be heard.

🧹 The resident pushing a pram past an overflowing bin on Warwick Way. The shopkeeper who used to find the shutters tagged every morning. The person with a stick trying to get along a pavement that is finally clear.

Mohamed Elmi stood up at Full Council on 16 September to give his first speech as the councillor for Pimlico North, and handed it over to clean streets.

He told the chamber that every piece of reported graffiti is now cleared within twenty four hours, and that fly-tipping is being pursued with CCTV and intelligence-led investigation.

Around Tachbrook and Wilton Road that is the difference between a street people want to shop on and one they hurry past.

Welcome, Mo.

Warwick Way and the streets around Tachbrook get their share, and an abandoned hire bike is no small thing if you use a frame or push a buggy.

The council reported to Full Council on 16 September that it has lifted about 700 bikes for dangerous parking since April and recovered a quarter of a million pounds from the firms behind them.

Local councillors Jim, Ed and Mohamed keep raising the ones that pile up by the market and outside the station.

The fastest thing you can do is report it, at westm.news/r. A minute, and it becomes the council's to chase.

πŸ† Nine categories are open in this year's ActiveWestminster Awards, and every one of them is asking the same question: who does the work that nobody gets paid for?

The council runs the awards. Nominating takes a couple of minutes and you do not need permission from the person you are putting forward.

Club or Coach of the Year covers the obvious ones. Unsung Hero covers the person who has been doing it quietly for a decade around Tachbrook and Warwick Way without anyone writing it down.

Local councillors Jim, Ed and Mohamed hear those names all the time. This is the week to make one of them official.

Midnight on Monday 28 September is the cut-off.

Yom Kippur starts at sunset this evening.

For those observing around Warwick Way and Tachbrook, it is a day of fasting, prayer and honest reckoning, ending at nightfall tomorrow.

Local councillors Jim, Ed and Mohamed wish you well over the fast.
