πŸ“£ CALLING ALL FUNERAL CELEBRANTS!

AN AWARENESS & EDUCATIONAL EVENT – NOT TO BE MISSED!

The History of the Funeral Service & The Future of Funeral Services

We are delighted to invite funeral celebrants to a special awareness and educational event, proudly hosted by T. Cribb & Sons and the Funeral Officiant Authority (FOA).

As our profession continues to evolve, we believe it is so important that we understand where funeral traditions began, the responsibilities we hold today, and what the future of funeral services could look like.

We have some fantastic subjects being covered throughout the day, including:

Dr Bill Webster – chatting with the deceased

Katie Costello – The Dying Body
Understanding what happens to the body during the dying process, helping us gain greater knowledge and awareness.
Katie will share the history of death and dying, particularly around soul midwifery, being at the bedside and the humanness of caring for someone who is dying, and how perhaps some of that has been lost or forgotten over time. Looking towards the future, Katie shares the current hospice funding crisis, the importance of palliative and end-of-life care, and why education and understanding around death and dying are so important. Particularly as we look at how care might increasingly move back into our communities and the role we all have to play in that.

London Fire Brigade – Trauma & PTSD
Understanding the effects of trauma and post-traumatic stress and why this awareness matters within our profession.

The Future of Funeral Services
Looking at how our industry is changing, the importance of professional standards, and the part we all have to play in its future.

We will also have the opportunity to visit the the National Funeral Museum, exploring the fascinating history of funerals and how traditions have changed over the years.

Very proud to have been asked to be part of the panel at this event "Dying Well Matters" on 27th October.

πŸ’¬ A CONVERSATION THAT COULD CHANGE THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT DYING
What if talking about death and dying became less frightening and more about understanding, choice and compassion?

We’re delighted to introduce the panellists for Dying Well Matters – Conversations That Count, bringing together medical expertise, bereavement support, dementia advocacy and lived experience. πŸ’— I’m honoured to host this important conversation about something that affects us all, yet is so often left unspoken.

🌿 MEET OUR PANELLISTS
πŸ’«Dr David Jefferys – Medical care and dying well. Exploring how healthcare and innovation can support people's wishes at the end of life, and whether we need to rethink our approach to death and dying.
πŸ’«Dr Prema Ravi – Compassionate care and planning ahead. Championing advance care planning, dignity and personal choice, particularly for people living with frailty or dementia, and the importance of coordinated care before a crisis.
πŸ’«Michelle Harvey – As a Funeral Life Celebrant and Co-Founder of The Bereavement Cafe in Orpington, Michelle will explore supporting grieving families, planning ahead and creating safe spaces to talk about loss.
πŸ’«Brenda Parson – Caring, loss and resilience. Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friends Ambassador & volunteer, Brenda shares the realities of caring for her late husband, the isolation carers can experience, and how textile art helped her maintain a part of herself.
πŸ’«Maria Hinds-Grant-Grant – Children, grief and saying goodbye. Drawing on the loss of her father in childhood and her own experience as a parent, Maria highlights why children need honesty, understanding and the opportunity to say goodbye.
πŸ’« Darrell Reeves – Darrell will demystify what happens when someone dies, from choosing a funeral director to understanding the practical steps families face.

πŸ’¬ WHY DOES THIS PANEL MATTER? No single perspective can answer every question. We need medical professionals, funeral and bereavement specialists, carers and people with lived experience to help us understand the choices, emotions and realities surrounding death. This discussion aims to challenge assumptions, reduce fear, support families and carers, and encourage conversations before a crisis forces them upon us.

Whether you're caring for someone, supporting a loved one, experiencing bereavement or simply wanting to plan ahead, this conversation is for you.
πŸ’— Come and listen. Learn. Ask the questions that matter because talking about dying isn't about giving up on life. It's about understanding what matters most while we are living it.

Oh my, well this has caused some controversy.... im a bit divided on this. But I do understand for some, this may be really comforting to have a conversation with the voice of a loved one who has been lost.

This is how far we have come with AI. And I know it will be a hot topic of debate.

What are your thoughts....

We are judged on not what we've taken, but what we've given.
