⚠️ Update: Essential resurfacing works at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH)

Resurfacing works on the roads and car parks at the PRUH are ongoing and are expected to continue for several more weeks. Around 15 patient and visitor parking spaces remain unavailable. Please allow extra time to find parking.

▪️ Driving

• Temporary road closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 October, where the road between the site roundabout and the main hospital entrance will be closed.
• Access to the Green Parks House car park will remain available as normal.
• The Green Parks House car park exit will remain open at all times. A short diversion will be in place near the Education Centre.
The road will fully reopen by 6am each morning.

▪️ Bus services

• Temporary changes will apply from 8pm until the end of service (approximately midnight) on both evenings.

🚌 R3 and R4 services will stop at Pallant Way (behind Marks & Spencer).
🚌 The 261 service will continue to stop outside the front of the hospital.

Please allow extra time for your journey and follow temporary signage or instructions from staff.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while these essential improvements are completed.

news! Our new treatment for urology patients allows them to return home just hours after their surgery.

The Urology Team at King’s has become the first in South London to offer treatment for enlarged prostate with a 15-minute outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic.

Treatment options include the iTIND procedure, where a device that reshapes prostate tissue is temporarily implanted, and Rezum, a steam treatment to help ease symptoms.

💬Mr Sanjith Gnanappiragasam, Consultant Urological Surgeon at King’s, said:

“Delivering this type of treatment within 15 minutes as part of an outpatient clinic appointment has huge benefits for our patients. It makes treatment quicker, simpler and less disruptive, helping people get home sooner and back to everyday life."

💊 Celebrating with Pau Rotger, Chief Pharmacy Technician of Clinical Services at King's...

Pau and his incredible team of 49 work tirelessly behind the scenes across King’s College Hospital, Princess Royal University Hospital and Orpington Hospital to ensure medicines are accurate, safe, and delivered with care.

"We are skilled, registered healthcare professionals, and I think it's important that people recognise just how much our profession has developed. We certainly don't just count tablets anymore!”

🔹What first drew you into the world of pharmacy?

💬“To be honest, pharmacy wasn't exactly part of a master plan! I actually came into the profession by coincidence.

“I'm Spanish and completed my pharmacy technician training in Barcelona back in 2002. My mum had cancer several times, so medicines were always part of my life in one way or another. When I discovered that this course was available, I thought, why not give it a go?

“And here I am, more than 20 years later, still working in pharmacy!

“What keeps me motivated at King's is, first and foremost, the people I work with. I've always felt supported and valued. I particularly appreciated the kindness, understanding and flexibility shown to me during the difficult time when I lost my mum. That support meant a lot to me and is something I will always remember.

"Of course, having the opportunity to make a difference and knowing that our work has a real impact on patient care is another big reason why I love what I do.”

At King’s, we have around 200 pharmacy technical staff, including pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and admin staff, which makes up 48% of the total pharmacy department across three sites.

⚠️ Update: Due to ongoing works resurfacing works on the roads and car parks at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), which are expected to last for several more weeks, there are fewer parking spaces available. Please allow extra time to find alternative parking.

▪️Driving:

Patients and visitors are advised of temporary changes to vehicle access at the hospital during overnight resurfacing works.

From 8pm to 6am on Monday 19 October and Tuesday 20 October, the main entrance from the A21 to the hospital roundabout will be closed.

🎗️ Standing together for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Our Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU) team came together in the Golden Jubilee Wing at King’s College Hospital for a special day of awareness, fundraising and support for children and young people affected by cancer.

From gold ribbons to a fantastic cake sale, the team helped shine a light on childhood cancer while raising funds for the CCLG: The Children & Young People’s Cancer Association, and supporting vital research and better treatments for children and young people.

💬 Jacqui Kerr, Paediatric Oncology Support Worker who took part in the awareness raising, said:

“Childhood cancer can change the lives of the whole family. By raising awareness and supporting research, we can help make a difference to children and young people today, and to those who will need care in the future.

"A huge thank you to everyone who baked, bought, donated and got involved. Every ribbon, slice of cake and donation helps us show our support.”

❤️💙 King’s lights up for 2026!

Yesterday, the Hambleden Wing at King's College Hospital proudly illuminated in red and blue marking , demonstrating our commitment to raising awareness of , promoting prevention and early recognition, and improving patient outcomes.

Thrombosis is when a blood clot (thrombus) forms inside a blood vessel, potentially blocking the flow of blood through the circulatory system and causing serious health issues.

At King’s, our Thrombosis and Haemostasis service is a UK leader in specialist care. We provide expert diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood clots, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as the management of bleeding disorders and thrombophilias.

🩸 It’s - a vital campaign dedicated to raising awareness of blood clots and highlighting the importance of prevention, early recognition, and timely treatment.

To mark the day, we spoke to Folusho Coker, our Thrombosis and Coagulation Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Princess Royal University Hospital.

💬 “What I value most about my role is the opportunity to improve patient outcomes through education, evidence-based practice and compassionate care.

“World Thrombosis Day provides an important opportunity to raise awareness, promote prevention and empower individuals to recognise the risks of blood clots and seek timely medical advice.”

At King's, our Thrombosis and Haemostasis service leads the UK in specialist care. We focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of blood clots (including DVT and PE), bleeding disorders and thrombophilias.
