🧡 Celebrating with the team at Camberwell!

Today, we are highlighting the vital work of our Sexual Health service and the dedicated staff who support our community every day.

We asked them what motivates them and what essential services they wish more people knew about.

🏥 Meet Chidimma, Senior Healthcare Assistant at King’s:

When asked about the most rewarding part of her day, Chidimma shared:

💬 “As a Healthcare Assistant in Camberwell Sexual Health, the most rewarding part of my day is helping service users feel comfortable, supported, and respected.

“Seeing a patient leave feeling reassured, listened to and more positive after their consultation gives me great satisfaction and reminds me why providing compassionate, patient-centred care is so important.”

🩺 Meet Dr Diana Medina, Speciality Doctor in Sexual and Reproductive Health at King’s.

We asked Dr Medina about an underused service she wishes more people knew about:

💬 “Our sexual health and contraception services are completely free. You do not need a GP registration, and your records stay strictly confidential. Your visits are private and confidential.

“We run a dedicated Spanish clinic within our sexual health centre. It is completely free and confidential. You do not need a GP registration.”

💬 “When his liver began to fail, everything changed. Suddenly we were faced with the reality that he needed both a liver and bowel transplant much sooner than we had ever imagined."

Harry Jackson’s father donated part of two organs in an extremely rare transplant case to save his son’s life.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated two services at King’s College Hospital as ‘Requires Improvement’ following an inspection in June this year.

Urgent and emergency care at the hospital, as well as services for children and young people, were both rated ‘Requires Improvement’. The ratings for both services are unchanged since they were last inspected.

King’s College Hospital’s rating also remains as ‘Requires Improvement’ overall.

Matthew Trainer, Chief Executive, said:

“It is positive that the CQC found some improvements had been made since these two services were last inspected. Patients continue to recognise the kindness and professionalism of our staff.

“However, it is clear that improvements in urgent and emergency care are needed, and the same is true of services for children and young people. Demand for both

services is high, but we need to make sure we get the basics right despite the pressures.”

💬"The scar I bear is a reminder of what I did to save my son's life."

Summiya Begum was able to become a living organ donor, giving her son the gift of life.

Two-year-old Yasin was born with biliary atresia (BA); a rare disease of the bile ducts affecting newborn babies, which can cause serious liver damage.

In 2025, specialists at King’s told Yasin’s parents he urgently needed a liver transplant; his mother Summiya made the brave decision to see if she could be a living donor.
