Families at Evelina London celebrated International Day of Play with a lucky dip, arts and crafts, and some very special guests!

Sofia, 15, said: "Even though I’m older than a lot of the children here, this has really made me smile! Being in hospital can be quite boring, so visits like this make all the difference."

The hospital's fantastic play team supports patients with the power of play all year round. They're specially trained in providing play for sick children and young people, helping our patients recover and develop through fun and familiar activities, like this event.

Thank you to everyone who made the day so magical 💙

Thank you to our "truly exceptional" Transport Team at St Thomas’ who were nominated for a Trust CARE award by a patient.

The patient said: “While waiting for transport yesterday, I had the opportunity to observe this team in action, and what I witnessed was truly exceptional.

“They worked seamlessly together—calmly organised, never raising their voices, and demonstrating an impressive knowledge of their patients.

“Care extended well beyond role expectations: ensuring an elderly gentleman was safe and reassured, calming another patient’s frustrations, and offering clear support when there was confusion around transport arrangements.

“Fiona, the health care assistant, was a valued and integral part of this team, consistently ensuring patient comfort. They are the best team I have encountered.”

Help us to acknowledge great service by nominating a special team or colleague for a CARE award. Visit our website to make a nomination.

Strike action is taking place at our hospitals and community sites from 7am on Monday 15 June until 7am on Friday 19 June.

We'll contact you if your care or your child's care is affected. If you have an appointment at any of our hospitals or community sites on these days, please assume this is going ahead unless you have been told otherwise.

Our emergency department (A&E) at St Thomas' Hospital will remain open during the strike action to treat people who need emergency or urgent care. We expect it to be very busy.

If you need medical advice but it’s not an emergency, please use a different service to get the care you need. You could:

➡️ call NHS 111 or visit www.111.nhs.uk
➡️ make an appointment with your GP
➡️ go to a local pharmacist

We're sorry for any distress that delays to your care may cause.

When our staff feel healthy and happy, it helps them provide the best possible care for our patients.

As May was National Walking Month, some of our colleagues used their breaks to join walks organised by our health and wellbeing team.

Fresh air, movement and the chance to meet new people from across our sites has really put an extra spring in everyone’s steps!

Supporting initiatives like this is part of our commitment to valuing our people. Thank you to everyone who took part. 💙

Three members of staff from Evelina London recently attended a Royal Garden Party in recognition of their dedication to patients. The annual garden parties, hosted by members of the Royal Family, celebrate and reward public service across the UK.

Sarah Munnelly, Edmund Mensah Boateng and Nanna Christiansen were nominated by senior leadership at Evelina London to attend this year’s festivities.

Gubby Ayida, chief executive of Evelina London said: "Their achievements highlight the extraordinary efforts of teams working across clinical and non-clinical roles to provide outstanding care for children, young people and families every single day. Congratulations to all three colleagues on this well-deserved honour.

"We are so grateful for the generosity of our Patron, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, in offering opportunities like these and giving us the opportunity to celebrate the everyday excellence of our teams."

We are extremely proud of the latest report from the Care Quality Commission into our urgent and emergency services.

The urgent and emergency care services at St Thomas’ Hospital and Guy’s Hospital have maintained their ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ ratings respectively, following an inspection by the CQC in March this year.

The inspection found both sites’ services had made significant progress in the ‘caring’ category, with each of their ratings in this area upgraded from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’.

St Thomas’ Hospital includes an adult's emergency department, Evelina London children's emergency department and an urgent treatment centre. Guy’s Hospital operates an urgent care centre which provides walk-in care for adults and children with minor illnesses and injuries.

Dr Katherine Henderson, Clinical Director of Adult’s Urgent and Emergency Care, said: “The ratings we have achieved are a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our staff, both clinical and non-clinical, working in these services and supporting patients.

“I am particularly pleased that our rating for being caring has been upgraded from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’ at both sites. We know we do not always get everything right, but this is an example of the importance we place on continuous improvement, and ensuring our patients remain at the very centre of everything we do.”
