🏘️ RGHT Charlton House & Gardens House & Gardens has nine named rooms - Six are open to the public.
💡Here’s how they got their names…
The Grand Salon… it’s the grandest room in the house and celebrates its early royal connections. Look out for the monogram JR (for King James, or Jacobus Rex) and the Prince of Wales's coat of arms on the plasterwork ceiling.
The Long Gallery… at 70 feet long it gets its name from its size! Among other things, it was once used for indoor exercise.
The Dutch Room (or Ducie Room)… its name comes from its architectural style. Check out the ornate fruit and foliage plasterwork that were fashionable during the 17th-century European trade era. It’s also a throwback to the Dulcie (or Ducie) family, who owned the estate in the late 17th century.
The White Room... named simply after its light, bright colour palette. Have a look at the chimney and find Perseus, Medusa, and Pegasus.
The Old Library… this is an easy one - the room was used for book collections.
The Newton Room...the Newton Room is an intimate and characterful space where heritage meets elegance. With its striking period features, tranquil atmosphere, and connection to over four centuries of history
