This Carers Week 2026, 8 - 14 June 2026 we're helping raise awareness of the vital role unpaid carers play in our communities. Together, We Can Build Carer Friendly Communities.

The theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, reminds us that small acts of understanding and support can make a big difference to the lives of carers. From friends and neighbours to local organisations and services, we all have a role to play in creating communities where carers feel recognised and supported.

At Age UK Waltham Forest, we see first-hand the dedication, compassion, and resilience shown by carers every day. This week, we celebrate everything they do and encourage anyone with caring responsibilities to seek the support they deserve.

Together, we can build a more carer-friendly Waltham Forest.

Fundraising Quiz Night Success! 🎉

Last Friday, AGE UK Waltham Forest held a fantastic fundraising quiz night in support of our Veterans Group.

Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who attended, we raised an amazing £488! 👏

The evening was filled with friendly competition, laughter, and a delicious fish and chips supper enjoyed by all.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part, donated, and helped make the event such a success. Your support means a great deal and helps us continue providing valuable activities and services for our veterans.

☀️ HOT WEATHER TOP TIPS ☀️

As temperatures rise, it’s important to take extra care and keep cool — especially for older adults and anyone with health conditions.

Here are some simple ways to stay safe in the heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty
🏠 Keep curtains or blinds closed during the hottest part of the day
👒 Wear light clothing and a hat if going outside
🌳 Stay in the shade and avoid being outdoors in peak afternoon heat
🍓 Eat light meals and keep snacks fresh and cool
📞 Check in on friends, neighbours and loved ones who may need support
💊 Keep medications stored correctly and speak to your pharmacist if unsure
🧊 Use a cool damp cloth on your neck or wrists to help cool down

If you feel dizzy, unwell, unusually tired or short of breath, seek advice and try to cool down immediately.
