Join OrganicLea's Summer Solstice Celebration: Plants and People in Unity.

As part of Refugee Week and celebrating their traditional Hawkwood summer solstice event, expect an uplifting evening featuring local musicians, specially curated tours, food and speeches. Taking place Friday 19 June, 4pm to 10 at Hawkwoood Plant Nursery, E4 7UH. The event is free to attend but donations are encouraged towards food and basic running costs.

They will be preparing Sudanese Ta'mia (closely related to falafel), alongside rice dishes, locally sourced bread, vegetables and OrganicLea's signature salad; alongside fresh summer pickles. If you witnessed somebody being harassed because of who they are, would you know how what to do? Our Allyship Training sessions are designed to equip you with practical skills to safely support others who are impacted by harassment or hate. Previous participants highlighted how useful it was to learn practical interventions they can apply in day to day situations, with many reporting a stronger understanding of allyship and how to take safe, confident action.

If you’d like to build your confidence and learn how to safely intervene when someone needs support, the next session will take place next week on Wednesday 17 June, 6-7pm. Sign up using the link in our comments!

"Waltham Forest has been recognised as a Borough of Sanctuary because we believe, and act on the belief, that every person regardless of where they were born or the colour of their skin deserves to live with dignity, safety, and welcome. That commitment does not waver when the national mood turns hostile. It deepens."

Waltham Forest is proud to be a Borough of Sanctuary. Our borough has a long history of being a welcoming place for people from all over the world who want to make it their home.

Cllr Paul Perkins and Averil Pooten Watan, Borough of Sanctuary Co-Chairs, have published a statement for the community following recent outbreaks of violence in Belfast and across parts of the UK this week. You can read it here: https://orlo.uk/qz5e0
