Australia's agriculture sector is recognised globally for its productivity, innovation and strong biosecurity system.

As both Australia and the UK look to strengthen food security and support sustainable agricultural growth, there is much we can learn from one another.

It was great for Deputy High Commissioner Elisabeth Bowes and Agriculture Counsellor Amy Little to meet with Labour MP and member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Commons Select Committee, Ben Goldsborough, following his recent visit to Australia.

They discussed the opportunities and challenges facing agriculture in both our countries, including biosecurity, regulation, innovation and the importance of creating the conditions for farmers to invest, grow and succeed.

Australia has updated its guidance on health insurance requirements for visa holders.

Many Australian visas require applicants and visa holders to maintain adequate health insurance.

UK visitors may still be eligible to access Medicare under our reciprocal healthcare arrangements.

Applications are now open for the Commonwealth Foundation’s 2026–27 grants call.

Funding is available for eligible civil society organisations and creative organisations, as well as networks, coalitions, alliances, platforms and creative collectives.

Grants support projects advancing climate and environmental justice, economic inclusion and/or freedom of expression through constructive engagement and creative advocacy.

Individual Organisation Grants: £15,000–£30,000 per year.

Collective Action Grants: £15,000–£20,000 per year. Funding is available for up to two years.

Australia is pleased to fund the Commonwealth Foundation and encourages eligible groups to apply.
