The new Leader of Lambeth Council, Councillor Martin Abrams, has announced an immediate pause to plans to close the Central Hill Dementia Day Centre.

This announcement includes a pause to all closure activity and any redundancy processes while the Council undertakes a detailed review of the proposal and alternative options.

The centre is open and is accepting new referrals.

South Bank & Waterloo will take centre stage during this year’s London Festival of Architecture.

As one of the key LFA2026 neighbourhoods, the programme will explore how culture, creativity, design and inclusive growth continue to shape one of London’s most important and evolving districts.

Our programme begins today with Illuminating Safety, exploring how lighting can transform underused spaces, improve visibility and support safer, more welcoming night-time environments. It's a conversation that closely aligns with Lambeth's ambitions for an inclusive and thriving night-time economy.

Throughout June, we'll also be exploring:

🚶 Wayfinding and public space in Waterloo
🌙 Community life after dark
📈 South Bank & Waterloo's next decade of growth
🤝 How design, culture and innovation can foster a stronger sense of belonging

Tonight's event, along with the wider programme, is open to everyone. We encourage you to attend, get involved in the conversation and help shape the future of this exciting part of the borough.

🇵🇹 Join us for a summer evening celebrating Lambeth’s Portuguese community ❤️

On 13 June, Wilcox Road in Stockwell will become a vibrant, car-free space filled with music, performances, creativity and family-friendly fun as part of Lambeth’s Day of Portugal celebrations.

From outdoor seating hosted by local businesses to face painting, games and cultural performances, this is all about bringing the community together and celebrating the diversity that makes South Lambeth special.

Inside Tate South Lambeth Library, you can also enjoy:
🎨 A free tile painting workshop inspired by Portuguese azulejos
🎶 Relaxed live music
🪑 Chill out spaces
