This week is Volunteers' Week (1 - 7 June). We are shining a light on our brilliant volunteers and the incredible work they do for our Trust.

Today's featured volunteer is Shomesh Chowdhury.

"When I started volunteering at Whittington Hospital, I was worried...will I be able to do the work? Will I fit in? Will the managers and staff like working with me?

As I hadn't done this type of admin work before, the work felt daunting, but as the days, weeks and months went by, I got used to it and it got easier.

I'm the type of person that gets along with everybody at work and I felt part of the Volunteering team right away. Now, I am much more confident in my role and the staff and managers are very happy with my work. Thank you for the volunteering experience."

This week is Volunteers' Week (1 - 7 June). We are shining a light on our fantastic volunteers and the incredible work they do for our Trust.

Today's featured volunteer is Yasmin Nouioua.

ā€œBefore I started volunteering at Whittington Hospital, I had never done anything like this before. I was expecting a constantly busy, fast-paced environment, however some days are slower, and some days will have you running around from the start to finish - no two days are the same.

My current role involves spending time with dementia patients and helping out with a weekly singing group for them. Over the past year, I’ve gained confidence, communication skills, compassion, and a great amount of knowledge on dementia. However, I’d say that the best part of this role is listening to the patient's stories and seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing that I’ve brightened their day.

My biggest piece of advice for any new volunteers would be to just go for it! Persevere through any wobbles, because in a hospital environment it can’t be guaranteed that everything will always be smooth sailing, but keep going and you’ll settle in and find your place.ā€œ

This week is Volunteers' Week (1 - 7 June). We are shining a light on our awesome volunteers and the incredible work they do for our Trust.

Today's featured volunteer is Delia Mills, who is Executive Assistant to our Chief Operating Officer.

"This week is a time for me to reflect on the voluntary opportunities I have been involved in. I know we're all pushed for time with competing priorities but if you have not volunteered before, please look into it. Your involvement may bring about important change and add value. I have volunteered in the housing and education sector and would never miss an opportunity in healthcare.

I have been called "Dills on Wheels" too many times to mention! In this photo, I'm living up to the name, volunteering during my lunch break to support new mothers.

It’s a beautiful moment, meeting the new parents and their new bundles of joy. My parting words are always - congratulations!" šŸŽ‰
