Chevening is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world. Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. There are over 50,000 alumni spread across the world who have benefited from a Chevening Scholarship or Fellowship since the programme began. Across Indonesia, the Alumni Association of Indonesia (CAAI) is connecting alumni across sectors, professions and regions, and using those connections to create meaningful impact.

Through mentoring, community initiatives, partnerships and support for people affected by natural disasters, CAAI is using the strength of its alumni network to create meaningful impact across the country. 💙

With support from the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund, CAAI is now looking to the future, strengthening regional connections and creating new opportunities for alumni to collaborate and contribute.

'I chose the University of Leicester for my Scholarship because of its strong research environment and human rights focus, but I was also really impressed by how helpful and responsive university staff were.'

Alumna Humay Ismayil's experience at the University of Leicester has given her the skills she needs to make a positive impact back home.

'I hope to work within the European human rights system and contribute to human rights work in Azerbaijan. The university classes were strongly case law based, so we learnt not just the legal theory but how it works in practice.'
