Roaa Ahmed recently visited Northern Ireland for the first time, learning more about its history, culture, and incredible landscapes 👇

'We not only explored great spots like the Giant's Causeway, but we also went to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the world's largest celebration of traditional Irish music, song, language, and dance in Belfast. What made it extra special was the company of my fellow Chevening Egyptian scholars.'

With support from partner Anglo American, Flavia Martinez Tarazona is turning her experience in human rights and law into a broader vision for public policy and social change.

Through her Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford, Flavia has gained new perspectives on evidence-based policymaking, social impact, and how policy can improve people’s everyday lives.

She’s now taking these insights back home to her work with Hablemos Sin Tabúes, helping to prevent gender-based violence and build stronger communities.

The Chevening Alumni Association of the Philippines is a testament to this, with local alumni working together to drive forward a new approach to drug education.

With support from the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund (CAPF), they are working with communities, civil society organisations, and public institutions to develop new education modules and create spaces for more informed and compassionate conversations around substance use.

'My advice to future Cheveners is to believe in yourself and embrace every opportunity that comes your way. Chevening helps you grow, create impact, and become a future leader who can contribute positively to your community and country' 💙

During her time in the UK, Deema Hyasa volunteered with local charity Interfaith Health and Healing, which allowed her to develop new skills and understand the important role that community organisations play in driving positive change.

'Chevening encouraged me to engage with the wider community and create impact beyond my studies. I was able to experience different communities, allowing me to better understand British culture and appreciate the diversity of the UK.'
