Liberal International’s 65th Congress is coming to Asia!

For the first time in 12 years, Liberal International will return to Asia for its 65th Congress, taking place across two locations - Bangkok, Thailand, and Taipei, Taiwan - from 2–6 November 2026.

The Congress will open in Bangkok at the invitation of H.E. Abhisit Vejjajiva and conclude in Taipei at the invitation of H.E. President 賴清德.

Bringing together liberal leaders, parties and delegates across two important locations in Asia, it provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and demonstrate in-person solidarity with our liberal colleagues in Thailand and Taiwan.

The programme will include essential congress administration elements alongside political and regional discussions, as well as important celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the พรรคประชาธิปัตย์ - Democrat Party, Thailand in Thailand and the 40th anniversary of the 民進黨DPP.

For the latest updates and information relevant to your delegation, members are requested to check directly with their International Officers.

Stay tuned!

Seventy-five years after the adoption of the Refugee Convention, its principles remain as relevant - and as contested - as ever.

The anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the Convention's legacy and consider how international protection can be strengthened in today's displacement landscape.

Ortega's declaration that there will be "no more elections" for Nicaragua's democratic opposition marks a dangerous new assault on democracy.

It is the latest step in the Ortega-Murillo regime's systematic effort to dismantle democratic institutions, silence dissent and entrench one-party authoritarian rule.

Liberal International stands in unwavering solidarity with our member parties, Ciudadanos por la Libertad and rutadelcambionic, and with every Nicaraguan fighting peacefully for freedom, democracy and the rule of law.

The people of Nicaragua deserve a genuine democratic transition - and the right to choose their future through free, fair and internationally observed elections.

answers a critical question: How do we build a liberal coalition capable of standing up to authoritarianism and populism?

On the sidelines of the Liberalism for the 21st Century conference in Washington, D.C., , President of .relial, sat down with Anne Applebaum to discuss one of the defining challenges facing democracies today.

In this concise three-minute conversation, Applebaum shares her perspective on how liberals and democrats can strengthen international cooperation, build resilient alliances, and respond to increasingly coordinated authoritarian movements.

These are precisely the conversations that will continue at Liberal International's 65th Congress later this year in Bangkok and Taipei, where liberal leaders from around the world will come together to strengthen global cooperation and develop shared strategies to defend freedom, democracy, and the rule of law in an increasingly challenging international landscape.
